7NEWS Perth will enter a new phase from January 18, strengthening its succession pipeline while keeping its most recognisable faces front and centre.
After four decades anchoring Western Australia’s most-watched news bulletin, Susannah Carr and Rick Ardon will transition to a revised presenting schedule in 2026, continuing to co-anchor the flagship 6.00pm bulletin from Thursday to Saturday.
From Sunday to Wednesday, Tim McMillan and Angela Tsun will step into expanded lead roles, taking the helm of the weeknight bulletin.
A carefully staged transition
Carr and Ardon’s adjusted schedule follows what Seven describes as a year of reflection after celebrating the pair’s world record 40-year tenure presenting a news bulletin together.
Seven’s Director of News and Current Affairs, Ray Kuka, said the shift was driven by both legacy and future-proofing considerations.
“2025 was a celebration of Sue and Rick’s historic contribution to WA, with a world record of 40 years fronting a news bulletin,” Kuka said.
“It was also a moment of reflection for Sue and Rick, and it became clear this was the right time to give them more flexibility, while ensuring the future of WA’s most watched and trusted bulletin – a news service they helped shape – continues to thrive with their enduring influence.”
Kuka said the revised schedule keeps Carr and Ardon at the heart of Seven’s on-air identity, while opening the door to the next generation.
“Sue and Rick remain a central part of our on-air identity, and this adjusted schedule allows them to continue to contribute where their experience matters most,” he said.
McMillan and Tsun take the helm
From Sunday to Wednesday, McMillan and Tsun will lead the bulletin, building on the strong audience connection they have developed by presenting weekend editions.
Kuka said the move reflects the depth of Seven’s Perth bench.
“It speaks to the depth of skill and versatility within the 7NEWS team that we have two newsreaders of Tim and Angela’s calibre to step up so seamlessly,” he said.
“They have been such a strong and united team alongside Rick and Sue, and we are thrilled this will continue.”
‘Change on your terms’
For Carr, the decision was about balance – and recognising the value of choice after four decades at the desk.
“We often get asked just how long we’ll remain in the role, and now seems the right time to stay at the desk but start freeing ourselves up to enjoy life away from the studio more,” she said.
“If there’s one thing I’ve learned from delivering the news for 40 years, it’s that life can change instantly, so when change can happen on your terms, you run with it.”
Ardon was equally clear that the transition does not signal a step back from journalism.
“Viewers should know I’m still as hungry as ever as a presenter and also a journalist, always on the lookout for breaking news,” he said.
“We’re continuing our strong relationship with our loyal viewers, and I expect to be a news breaker well into the future.”
The reshaped roster positions 7NEWS Perth to retain its strongest assets while investing visibly in the next chapter of its newsroom leadership – a balance that has become increasingly critical across Australian television news.
