10 has confirmed its return to the breakfast slot taking on the likes of Channel 7’s Sunrise and Nine’s Today.

The network is set to launch 10 News First: Breakfast starting June 27, from 8 am to 8:30 am every weekday, according to TV Blackbox.

Going up against the powerhouse breakfast duos of Natalie Barr and David Koch, and Karl Stefanovic and Allison Langdon is Lachlan Kennedy who will present from Monday to Wednesday, based at the 10’s Sydney studios.

Meanwhile, presenting on Thursday and Friday is Natasha Exelby, who will be going live from the Melbourne studio.

The 30-minute news bulletin will then lead into the start of its long-running talk show, Studio 10hosted by Sarah Harris and Tristan MacManus.

A Network 10 spokesperson said: “10 News First: Breakfast expands and strengthens 10’s commitment to News across the day.

“The addition of a morning news bulletin offers viewers a concise, 30-minute news update at the start of their day, and extends 10’s daily news offering.

“From 10 News First: Breakfast at 8 am, through to 10 News First at 5 pm, and all the news updates in between, 10 has you covered with the latest breaking news and up to date reports on local, national and international stories,” they added.

The network’s nimble attempt back into the breakfast TV follows its failed venture, Wake Up!, back in 2013.

Wake Up! was launched on Queenscliff Surf Club at Manly Beach in Sydney and was hosted by Natarsha Belling and James Mathison, with Exelby as the newsreader.

However, poor ratings led to the show being axed just six months after its premiere, with final episode airing in May 2014.

The return to breakfast TV comes after the rebrand from 10 ViacomCBS to 10 Paramount.

ViacomCBS chief executive Bob Bakish revealed in a memo to staff that the company would be rebranding back in February

The announcement came as the company revealed its Q4 2021 financial and ahead of an investor day for ViacomCBS.

The move to Paramount acknowledges the importance of streaming to the media company’s business model. Key amongst the data for the financial results was the customer growth at Paramount+.
