Seven’s AFL 2024 Opening Round Sydney v Melbourne Match recorded a total TV national reach of 2,145,000 and a total TV national audience of 702,000.

The first season opener ever played in Sydney peaked at 977,000 viewers nationally, with the match averaging 702,000 viewers, up 10% compared to the 2023 AFL season average.

Managing director Seven Melbourne and head of network sport, Lewis Martin, said: “Last night was a fantastic start to what promises to be a great AFL season: a huge crowd at the SCG, a big TV audience and a gripping game.

“Following one of the greatest Finals Series ever seen in modern day football, we cannot wait to see what 2024 has in store. From all the nail-biting finishes to the biggest day in September, Seven will be there to deliver every moment to all Australians, live and free.”

Meanwhile, in the NRL, Nine’s coverage of the Knights v Raiders game recorded a total TV national reach of 1,331,000, a total TV national audience of 505,000, and a BVOD audience of 58,000.

Nine’s A Current Affair recorded a total TV national reach of 1,115,000, a total TV national audience of 703,000, and a BVOD audience of 44,000.

Back on Seven, Home & Away recorded a total TV national reach of 653,000, a total TV national audience of 437,000, and a BVOD audience of 55,000.

10’s airing of The Dog House Australia recorded a total TV national reach of 927,000, a total TV national audience of 405,000, and a BVOD audience of 14,000.
