ABC’s airing of Vera topped entertainment total TV for the network with 560,000 viewers, growing by 19%. 

The biggest jump in commercial primetime viewing goes to ABC’s Bay of Fires, where the Total TV audience grew by 105% to reach 244,000 viewers. 

Overnight TV Ratings, August 5

Seven enjoyed a Saturday night win in both the network and primary channel shares with 23.8% and 36.1%, respectively. 7mate won the multichannels with 5.2%.

Seven’s Saturday Night AFL saw the Geelong Cats take a 97–85 point victory over Port Adelaide as 346,000 tuned in to watch the match. In entertainment, Border Security – Australia’s Front Line reached 236,000 as two women coming from China refused to open their bags.

Nine’s airing of A Current Affair saw 200,000 tuned in as the program investigated the scheme offering a way into the property market. Earlier in the night, Getaway had 265,000 as the team found their zen in Singapore.

On the ABC, Grantchester was viewed by 387,000 as the series returned for a brand new season that saw the investigation into a young biker killed after a charity motorbike race.

10 aired a repeat of Thank God You’re Here to 128,000. The network also aired Weird: The Al Yankovic Story to 100,000 viewers.

SBS aired Tony Robinson’s History of Britain to 75,000.

On Fox League, the Sharks beat the Rabbitohs 26-16 in front of 220,000, while the Knights just inched out the Dolphins 30-28 in front of 193,000. The Broncos also beat the Cowboys 30-14 as 185,000 tuned in. 

Fox Footy’s top game was Hawthorn V Collingwood, which saw Hawthorn dominate by 32 points in front of 191,000. Geelong V Port Adelaide clocked 161,000 as Geelong won by 12 points at GMHBA Stadium. Adelaide V Gold Coast saw the Crows win by 28 in front of 53,000.
