TV Ratings August 20, 2022: ABC’s Grantchester wins against AFL

Seven’s AFL: Saturday Night Football was the top program on total TV, as Melbourne took on Cartlon to win 11.13 (79) to 10.14 (74). The coverage reached a total audience of 754,000 people and rose 1%.

ABC claimed the #2 spot with Grantchester, reaching a total TV audience of 728,000 and experiencing a lift of 31%.

Getaway on Nine reached 443,000 views and increased by 4%.

Overnight TV Ratings, August 20

Thanks to a winning combo of 7news (694,000) and Seven’s AFL Saturday Night Football (388,000), Seven topped the Saturday shares with a network share of 35.7% and a primary channel share of 27.1%. 7mate claimed the multichannel win with a 3.8% share. 

198,000 people tuned in from Melbourne to watch Richmond dominate Essendon to win 21.15 (141) to 11.9 (75). The coverage topped all the key age demographics, despite not airing in Perth. Additionally, Border Security reached 260,000 people.

On Nine9News clocked 609,000 views, while Getaway had a viewership of 270,000 as the team explored the Greek island of Corfu. Saturday Night NRL reached an audience of 171,000 as the Roosters dominated the West Tigers 72-6.

On ABC, Grantchester was the most-watched entertainment program of the night, bringing in an audience of 432,000. In last night’s episode, a murder occurred at a local old folks’ home, and two of its elderly residents went missing, raising questions about whether they are also victims or involved in the crime. A repeat of Endeavour also enjoyed a high rating, reaching 282,000 people. 

10 News First was the most viewed program on 10 with 191,000 views, followed by a repeat of The Dog House with 171,000.

SBS aired an episode of The World’s Most Scenic Railway Journeys, which reached an audience of 117,000.

Fox League has claimed the top three spots on subscription TV. The match between the Sea Eagles v Sharks came out on top, clocking 209,000 views as the Sharks dominated the Sea Eagles 40-6.

Coming in second was the Roosters v West Tigers coverage, reaching 173,000 views, followed by NRL Super Saturday with 171,000 views.
