The Masked Singer Australia unveils Anastacia as winner of 2021 season

The Masked Singer

• For her final solo performance, Vampire sunk her teeth into Live and Let Die by Paul McCartney

Anastacia has been crowned the winner in the Grand Finale of The Masked Singer Australia on 10 and 10 Play.

The American singer-songwriter took out the coveted title ahead of singers Em Rusciano (aka Dolly) and Axle Whitehead (aka Mullet).

For her final solo performance, Vampire sunk her teeth into Live and Let Die by Paul McCartney, and the panel of judges Dannii Minogue, Dave Hughes, Jackie O and Urzila Carlson took their final stabs at who was behind the Vampire mask.

Dave and Urzila were unsuccessful in their guesses of Shakira and Sheryl Crow, but it was Jackie O and Dannii Minogue, who ended their winning streak on a high, with the correct placement of singer Anastacia as Vampire.

When host Osher Günsberg asked why she joined The Masked Singer Australia, Anastacia said: “I was actually asking myself that question when I saw the costume for the first time. I was terrified to be the Vampire.”

For second runner-up Axle, he embodied his character of the Mullet by sporting the exact same haircut.

Axle said: “It has been such a blast to get in touch with my inner bogan and be able to just take him on. What a character!”

For runner-up Em, she fought back tears as she described how much being Dolly has meant to her.

Em said: “I haven’t been able to sing live in 18 months. I am a live performer so this has been magic. It’s put all the magic back into my blood. This has been the best experience of my life.”
