The 2020 season ended before the grand final due to the COVID-19 pandemic

After the 2020 season ended before the grand final due to the COVID-19 pandemic, AFLW is back with their opening weekend. Traditional rivals Carlton and Collingwood will face each other again when they clash tonight, setting the stage for the rest of the weekend live and free on the Seven Network and streamed on 7plus.

The AFLW action on Seven only hots up from there, with five more games across the weekend.

This year, Seven will continue its commitment to broadcast more AFLW games than ever, with every match of this season’s three-week finals series to be shown live and free. Fans in Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia, NSW, and Queensland will be able to see all their local teams’ matches across the nine-round home-and-away season.

Seven’s AFLW commentary team includes Abbey Holmes, Sam Lane, callers Jason Bennett, Nigel Carmody, and Jo Wotton, with hosting from Jacqui Felgate and boundary reporting from Emma Vosti.

Premiership-winning coach Bec Goddard will again provide expert analysis and insight. In an exciting addition to Seven’s coverage this season, recently retired Melissa Hickey, who will go down in history as Geelong’s inaugural AFLW captain, also joins the commentary team.

On Saturday, Melbourne skipper Daisy Pearce flies the Demons north as they take on the Gold Coast Suns at Metricon Stadium, while West Coast hosts the Crows at home at Mineral Resources Park.

After Richmond’s tough inaugural AFLW season was cut short due to COVID-19 last year, returning captain Kate Brennan will lead the Tigers out on their home ground for their round one clash against the Lions on Sunday.

Earlier that day, Geelong will host the Kangaroos at GMHBA Stadium, while round one will finish with a bang when form side Fremantle, who went through the unfinished 2020 season undefeated, square off with GWS at home.

AFLW blockbuster airs on Channel 7, 7mate and 7plus. Carlton v Collingwood, tonight from 7.00pm AEDT.
