The Seven Network has announced that Australian basketball legend Andrew Bogut as the latest addition to its commentary team for next month’s Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.

Bogut was the first Australian selected at #1 in the NBA Draft and only the second ever alongside current Australian star Ben Simmons to hear his name called first on draft night.

Bogut had a decorated 14-year career in the NBA that included starting centre in the Golden State Warriors’ 2015 Championship team against the Clevland Cavaliers, and for the record-making 73 win season.

Bogut was also honoured with selection in the NBA All-Rookie First Team (2006), All-NBA Third Team (2010) and NBA All-Defensive Second Team (2015).

Bogut was a key part of the Australian Boomer squads from 2004 to 2016, competing at three Olympic Games (he missed London 2012 through injury), leading the squad to a fourth-place finish at Rio 2016, their equal best result ever at the Olympic Games.

Bogut will join fellow Boomers great Andrew Gaze and leading basketball caller John Casey to cover the men’s basketball in Tokyo for Seven.

Bogut said he believed the Boomers could finally breakthrough next month to claim their first Olympic medal.

“It’s great to be part of the Seven commentary team for the upcoming Olympic Games in Tokyo. The Boomers have a great chance to medal and I’m excited to see how they go while calling the games with Andrew Gaze and John Casey,” he said.

Bogut’s signing expands Seven’s Olympic Games commentary team, which will be led by Australia’s pre- sport broadcaster, Bruce McAvaney.

Seven’s commentary line-up includes Australia’s greatest-ever Olympian Ian Thorpe, along with fellow gold medallists Anna Meares, Nick Green, Giaan Rooney, Scott McGrory, Russell Mark, Debbie Watson and Kerri Pottharst. Decorated Olympians Rachael Sporn, Tamsyn Lewis-Manou and David Culbert, and former champion ironwoman Candice Warner, will also be part of the team.
