Mike Jones has announced his departure from BBC Studios ANZ, where he oversaw scripted development across drama and comedy projects.
The Sydney-based television executive, writer and producer confirmed the move in a LinkedIn post late last week. His exit brings to a close his stint as Head of Development, Scripted, after joining the production company in March 2025.
Jones has worked across more than 20 broadcast series and feature productions, with projects recognised at the AACTA, Emmy, Rockie, AWG, Logie, SPA, SeriesMania and ADG awards.
His television credits include international dramas The Gloaming, The Kettering Incident, Eden, Deadhouse Dark and Ms Fisher’s Modern Murder Mysteries, along with dramedies F’cking Adelaide and Emmy-nominated Wrong Kind of Black.
Jones was also co-creator and writer of supernatural mystery The Orchard, starring Eric Bana for Amazon’s Audible. His producing credits include AACTA-winning youth drama Deadlock, plus comedy and family features A Sunburnt Christmas, Christmas Ransom and Windcatcher, starring Jessica Mauboy.
He has previously worked with companies including the ABC, Warner Bros, Jungle, 2Jons and Princess Pictures. Before joining BBC Studios ANZ, Jones was Head of Content at Every Cloud Productions, a development executive at Screen Australia, and lectured in story and writing at the Australian Film Television and Radio School.

The role covered both drama and comedy, placing him across the company’s scripted pipeline in Australia and New Zealand.
Before joining BBC Studios ANZ, Jones held senior creative and development roles with Screen Australia and Every Cloud Productions.
He has also lectured in story and writing at the Australian Film Television and Radio School.
In announcing his departure, Jones said he was “moving on from my role at BBC Studios” and would now focus on new projects.
He also left the door open to future collaborations across the industry.
