Mediaweek Industry Awards: Best Breakfast Radio Show Perth

For some time Perth breakfast has been a tussle between Mix’s Clairsy, Matt & Kymba and Nova’s Nathan, Nat & Shaun.

Winner: Mix 94.5 – Clairsy, Matt & Kymba

It has been a rollercoaster year for the Perth outpost that forms part of the Triple M network without being branded with network signage.

For some time Perth breakfast has been a tussle between Mix’s Clairsy, Matt & Kymba and Nova’s Nathan, Nat & Shaun.

In 2019 both Mix and its breakfast show started strongly with both ranked #1 for the first two surveys. However Nova breakfast then streaked away winning the remaining six surveys of the year.

However the year ended with Clairsy, Matt & Kymba lifting their share to 12.6% off a year low of 10.5% to be a little more competitive with Nova who was still #1.

Late in the year Mix94.5’s “Captain” Paul Shepherd announced his retirement from radio and the Clairsy, Matt & Kymba breakfast show, after over 30 years on air with the SCA station.

Shepherd was diagnosed with bowel cancer in August and after undergoing surgery has been receiving chemotherapy treatment and making regular guest appearances on the show.

He will be moving to Denmark to spend time with his family, his best friend, Golden Labrador, Bella and in true Captain Paul style, build a plane!

Surprisingly Nova are shut out of the Perth result with the second and third places in our reader awards going to Hit 92.9’s breakfast show Heidi, Xavier and Pete and triple j’s Ben & Liam.

It hasn’t been a great year for 92.9 in breakfast with all surveys under 10% after a 2018 where they cracked that mark five times. However Heidi, Xavier and Pete ended the year strongly with four successive surveys on the rise to a year-high share of 9.6%.

triple j has always performed strongly in Perth and Ben and Liam ended the year on a very healthy share of 9.1%, up from 7.1% the previous survey.
