Winners and top teams from previous seasons, and a wildcard duo, will face off in a super-sized competition

Lego Masters: Grand Masters returns for its fifth and biggest season yet on April 10 at 7.30 pm on Nine and 9Now.

In a world first, winners and top teams from previous seasons, plus a new wildcard duo, will face off in a super-sized competition to determine the best of the best.

Among those to join this season are; season three winners David & Gus, season four runners-up Alex & Caleb and season one and Bricksmas winners Henry & Sarah.

Returning a host is Hamish Blake, alongside judge Ryan “Brickman” McNaught, who will guide the contestants through the toughest challenges in the series so far, featuring new twists and turns to truly test this elite group of champion builders.

This includes Lego worlds suspended high above the ground, an exciting movie mayhem scene using motors and explosives; and a rocket being launched into the sky.

The show will also feature special guest appearances from Sophie Monk, Dr Karl Kruszelnicki and – to celebrate 100 years of Disney storytelling – the iconic character Mickey Mouse.

Brickman said: “Being Grand Masters, the expectation is already there. They all know they need to bring something new and exciting, something beyond their best, something we’ve never seen before, and they sure do.”

Blake added: “To be invited back this season for Grand Masters I think really solidifies me as the best host that has ever hosted Lego Masters Australia, and that is a huge honour.”

Last year, Joss and Henry have taken out the title of 2022 Lego Masters on Nine, winning $100,050 (the extra $50 thanks to Hamish Blake) in prize money.

The Grand Final episode saw the three surviving teams were given 28 hours to create their last epic build, a gruelling task, after which a room full of Lego fans chose their favourite build to crown the 2022 Lego Masters.

The teams who took on the final challenge were Joss and Henry, Nick and Gene, and Alex and Caleb.

Taking home the title, Henry and Joss created a scene straight from a monster movie, with a kaiju taking on a mecha crab, destroying the Golden Gate bridge as they fought – complete with a Channel Nine news truck.

Lego Masters: Grand Masters is produced by Endemol Shine Australia (a Banijay Company) and adapted from an original UK format from Tuesday’s Child Productions and The Lego Group.
