Radio Ratings 6 2017: Melbourne – Ratings boom at 3AW

James Manning looks at the sixth radio ratings survey for 2017

3AW's Ross and John

•  Ratings go boom at 3AW – 10+ hits 16.2%, Ross and John on 21.6%

3AW 16.2% (+1.4)

The end of the AFL season has helped here with weekends up 1.3 to 14.0%. But look at those breakfast ratings – Ross Stevenson and John Burns have driven their share higher another 1.1 to 21.6%. Neil Mitchell had the biggest daypart increase with morning up 2.5 to 17.7%. Evening was not too shabby either with Ross Greenwood, Steve Price and Phil and Simon all contributing to a rise of 2.2 to 18.9%. Share 65+ is now 33.8% (+1.1).

smoothfm 91.5 10.5% (+1.0)

#1 FM again and now into double figures with all timeslots pushing upwards. Breakfast with Mike Perso and Jennifer Hansen is now #2 FM behind only Fox. Afternoon boomed with share up 1.6 to 12.0%, but it still didn’t quite catch Gold. Like its Sydney offspring, smoothfm is FM champ 55-64 with share of 14.4%, trailing only 3AW.

101.9 FOX FM 9.3% (+0.5)

After a challenging survey five, the numbers have bounced back with Fox #2 FM. Breakfast with Fifi, Dave and Fev with Byron will be losing Dave Thornton imminently, but breakfast climbed back 1.1 to 9.0% to remain #1 FM but with a bigger lead over #2 smoothfm. Fox leads in key 18-24 and 25-39 timeslots and maintains a 10+ point lead over KIIS in the former.

GOLD104.3 9.3% (+0.2)

Station now shares #2 FM with Fox with afternoon the biggest contributor on 12.1% (+0.8). Breakfast with Jo and Lehmo edged higher by 0.1 to 7.7% where it is now #3 FM. Station remains clear FM leader 40-54 with share on 12.9% (+0.7).

Nova 100 6.9% (-1.1)

Disappointing survey with a slip below 7%. Breakfast has not lived up to early performance with share down 1.0 to 6.8% as Chrissie, Sam and Browny head toward the end of their second year. Daytime listening took a hit as did key demos.

KIIS 101.1 FM 6.2% (+0.1)

The station hasn’t had a great year and new breakfast and drive shows are expected by many. However, the station out-rates Triple M 10+. Breakfast remains a challenge though and ranking last amongst FM stations not acceptable for ARN parent HT&E. Hughesy and Kate lifted a little, but they still rank #5 FM in a field of six.

105.1 Triple M 6.1% (-0.5)

Final survey for Mick Molloy in breakfast with share down 0.5 to 7.1% in that slot. Strongest demo share is 40-54 where station ranks #2 FM on 9.6% (+0.3) behind only Gold.

SEN 3.8% (+0.1)

Good growth spurt for breakfast for Garry, Tim and Hamish with share lifting 0.4 to 3.5%. This could be one of the last surveys for Hamish who is expected to focus on his Seven work next year. Kevin Bartlett had another reason to smile this week (Tigers victory came first) with morning share up 0.5 to 4.7%.

TalkingLifeStyle 0.4% (0.0)

Share was steady in the first year for the new brand with growth coming on weekends where share was up 0.2 to 0.7.
