Nine

Nine had 425,000 for their Thursday night NRL coverage as the Parramatta Eels defeated the Melbourne Storm, this was only down slightly on last week’s season opener which had 463,000. The game was the top non-news program in both Sydney and Brisbane last night, and also had 279,000 tune in on Fox League.

Seven

Seven was the top primary channel last night with a healthy 23.7% share and was also the top network last night with 33.8%, this was thanks to the return of the AFL.

The AFL returned for its season opener between Richmond and Carlton, with the Tigers coming out victorious. Richmond weren’t the only winners though with Seven raking in 668,000 with 422,000 coming from the Melbourne market. However, this number was down on last year’s season opener which had 798,000 tune in for the Richmond v Carlton game.

On Fox Footy, the game had 243,000 viewers giving the match a combined audience of 911,000.

Seven only aired one episode of Home and Away last night which had 276,000 viewers, the episode did not air in Melbourne or Adelaide due to the AFL coverage starting at 7 pm.

This meant that Wife Swap Australia in Sydney, Brisbane, and Perth was moved up from 8:30 to 7:30 but aired on 7mate in Melbourne and Adelaide, the episode had 218,000 down on last weeks 262,000.

7mate was also the top multichannel last night with 4.5%, boosted by the AFL and Wife Swap Australia.

10

Gogglebox Australia was the top entertainment show last night with 483,000, this was down on lasts week’s 554,000 viewers, but it had much more competition this week with both the NRL and AFL now up and running on Thursday nights.

Gogglebox was preceded by the tandem of Bondi Rescue (275,000) and Territory Cops (266,000).

The Project had 253,000 and 356,000 tune in as the show covered the outrage over the consent app idea, companies pocketing Jobkeeper payments, and also talked to comedian Dave Thornton.

ABC

Last night Backroads had 401,000 for the show’s local heroes special, this was down on last week’s episode which had 469,000.

Q+A had 232,000 which was down on last week’s 292,000 with one of the downsides of moving the program from Mondays to Thursdays in 2021 being that it now goes up against the NRL and AFL. The episode this week covered consent with students, parents, experts, and educators discussing the issue.

SBS

On SBS the top rating show was The Diagnosis Detectives with 177,000.
