The fifth Ashes Test continue on Nine

• 1.1 million tune into Dancing with the Stars Grand Finale in Total TV
• 1 million watch ABC drama Bay of Fires in Total TV

Total TV Ratings, July 23

1,159,000 watched Seven’s Dancing with the Stars Grand Finale. After whittling it down to the final two, Human Nature’s Phil Burton won the title, up 12%.

1,069,000 tuned in for ABC drama Bay of Fires as Stella (Marta Dusseldorp) and her kids became more acquainted with Mystery Bay and its inhabitants, up 81%.

774,000 saw ABC’s Restoration Australia as host Anthony Burke met a young couple who turned a big crumbling church in remote South Australia into a family home, up 16%.

744,000 viewed 10’s Hunted Australia as boxer/coach duo, Taylah and Glenn were eliminated, up 37%.

566,000 saw another instalment of Nine’s The Murder of Lyn Dawson, detailing how The Teacher’s Pet podcast investigation spurred authorities into investigating the case, up 16%.

Seven has won Sunday night with a primary share of 35.9% and a network share of 41.7%. 9Gem has won multi channels with an 3.6% share.

846,000 began their evening with the official Red Carpet coverage of Seven’s 63rd Annual TV Week Logie Awards. The live telecast then followed with 877,000 tuning in to see host Sam Pang roast the entire industry during his opening monologue, media executive Brian Walsh was inducted into the Hall of Fame and Sonia Kruger won the Gold Logie for Most Popular Television Personality. 439,000 then watched The 1% Club with Jim Jefferies.

Earlier in the afternoon the Tigers took on the Demons in the AFL. Melbourne beat Richmond, 20.10 (130) to 15.8 (98) in front of 316,000 viewers.

Over on Nine’s 60 Minutes (457,000), footy great Wally Lewis revealed a tragic secret about the game he loves; plus, the program detailed the battle of the biggest heavy metal bands – Def Leppard and Motley Crue. Then, 559,000 watched Session One of day four of the fifth Ashes test match while 279,000 watched Session Two and 347,000 watched Lunch. The Pre-Match was also viewed by 90,000 while 106,000 watched Tea. Australia’s batting openers kept the final Ashes Test alive before rain washed out the second session.

Earlier in the afternoon, the Titans took on the Cowboys in NRL Sunday Footy. Gold Coast beat North Queensland, finishing 22 to 13 in front of 246,000.

159,000 watched ABC’s Compass. The program put a spotlight on Chloe Hayden who was diagnosed as autistic at the age of 13 and has been a selective mute for many years. With a passion for Disney princesses, Chloe has now found her voice online as a ‘princess’. Then, 370,000 sat down for Restoration Australia where host Anthony Burke met a couple turning a neglected inner-city Queenslander into a period showcase and eco-friendly, healthy haven as one partner recovered from cancer. 292,000 then stayed on for drama Bay of Fires where public servant, Robin was sent to Mystery Bay to investigate some suspicious records and Stella and her kids attended an uncomfortable dinner at Frankie’s. 

On 10The Sunday Project (163,000 (6:30pm) / 233,000 (7pm) ) looked at the four ADF personnel who are feared dead after a Taipan helicopter crashed on Sunday, July 30. Sam Taunton joined the panel from the Logies Red Carpet to tell them what he’d found out from pestering everyone on the red carpet. Then, on Hunted Australia, 322,000 tuned in to see Fugitive besties, Elerrina and Sonja, caught by the Hunters as a phone intercept was followed by a late-night stake-out and ultimate capture.

The highest rating non-news show on SBS was Great Wall of China: The Making of China, where in a breathtaking aerial journey, the team flew the entire length of the Great Wall of China to follow the longest man-made monument in the world. 100,000 tuned in.
