TV Demand: Australia feels the force of The Mandalorian

The Mandalorian

• Last Week Tonight With John Oliver closes the 2021 season

The Mandalorian spent ten weeks strong at the top of the charts after the release of a second season until it was unseated by Cobra Kai all the way back in January. It has claimed its position at the top of both the Digital Original and Overall Australian charts.

The Mandalorian was a huge hit for Disney+, and while it didn’t stay in the number one position throughout the entire calendar year of 2020, it started and ended the year reigning supreme.

The spike comes as set photos from the highly anticipated third season have been released, involving a mysterious new character.

Disappointingly for fans, the third season won’t be dropping in 2021 despite the show historically releasing episodes as the year draws to a close.

This week The Mandalorian scored 22.3 points above market average in Australia and didn’t crack the top 10 on either chart in New Zealand.

The Expanse, which is based on the series of novels of the same name by James S. A. Corey, has taken top spot on the New Zealand Digital Original chart. The series follows a group of antiheroes in a future where humanity has colonized the Solar System as they unwittingly unravel a conspiracy that threatens the system’s fragile state of peace.

This week The Expanse scored 14.29 points above market average in Australia and 11.37 points above average in New Zealand.

Overall in New Zealand, Last Week Tonight With John Oliver won out once more as Oliver recruited several celebrities – and a white void – to help him close the season.

This week Last Week Tonight With John Oliver scored 11.32 points above market average in New Zealand and didn’t crack the top 10 on either chart in Australia.
