Triple M touts record NRL audience year

Triple M will broadcast the State of Origin decider as it reports record NRL audience growth across radio and podcasting.

Triple M will broadcast Wednesday night’s State of Origin decider from Suncorp Stadium as parent company SCA points to its strongest year of rugby league coverage across radio and digital.

The network says its NRL coverage has delivered record audience results in 2026, including its first wins over 2GB across both Saturday and Sunday NRL coverage. It comes ahead of Triple M’s broadcast of the 2026 Rugby League World Cup later this year.

What is Triple M broadcasting for State of Origin?

Coverage begins at 6pm with Triple M’s Origin Rumble, featuring Nathan Hindmarsh, Gorden Tallis and Charlie White. The program will preview the decider and revisit major moments from the NSW-Queensland rivalry.

From 7pm, Dan Ginnane will lead the call from Brisbane alongside former NSW and Australian representative Wade Graham, Queensland and Australian great Shane Webcke, and Triple M’s Ben Dobbin. Kick-off is scheduled for 8.05pm.

Audience growth and podcast momentum

According to Triple M, 2026 has delivered its strongest NRL audience results. The network says it claimed Saturday and Sunday NRL coverage wins over 2GB for the first time, marking its best weekend ratings performance for rugby league.

The season also included the play-by-play debut of Emma Lawrence, who SCA described earlier this year as the first female play-by-play caller in NRL broadcast history. Former premiership-winning halfback Luke Keary also joined as an expert commentator.

On podcasting, Triple M said NRL Daily ranked as the number one rugby league podcast on the Triton Australian Podcast Ranker for May 2026. The Australian Podcast Ranker is a monthly snapshot of the top 300 podcasts listened to by Australians, commissioned by Commercial Radio & Audio and published by Triton Digital.

Rugby League World Cup coverage to come

Triple M will also carry major matches from the 2026 Rugby League World Cup, which starts on Thursday, 15 October. The men’s tournament opens with Australia against New Zealand at Allianz Stadium in Sydney.

The tournament will run through to the women’s and men’s finals at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday, 15 November. Triple M said commentary teams for the tournament will be announced closer to the event.

Ewan Giles, SCA Head of Sports Content, said: “There’s never been a bigger year for rugby league on Triple M. Whether it’s State of Origin, our record-breaking NRL audiences, the success of NRL Daily or the upcoming Rugby League World Cup, we’re seeing more fans than ever choosing Triple M for the biggest moments in the game.

“We’ve assembled the best callers, the biggest personalities and the strongest rugby league lineup in the country, and we can’t wait to finish an incredible season with the Rugby League World Cup.”
