Christian O’Connell’s Movie Marathon challenges listeners to watch 48 hours of Groundhog Day

The Christian O'Connell Show

The new promotion gives listeners the chance to win $20,000

GOLD104.3’s The Christian O’Connell Show has announced a new promotion that gives listeners the chance to win $20,000, titled O’Connell’s Movie Marathon

Christian came up with the idea to get 16 listeners into a cinema to watch the same movie (Groundhog Day) on repeat for 48 hours. The last person standing will win $20,000 to spend at Chapel St Precinct.

To win the $20,000, listeners are required to stay awake and watch Groundhog Day on a constant loop until there is only one listener left participating. This means the film could play up to 29 times.

The competition kicks off on-air Monday 1 May on The Christian O’Connell Show on GOLD104.3.

This week, Mediaweek spoke to ARN chief content officer Duncan Campbell, about how the company is shaping up after the second radio ratings survey for 2023.

Gold FM continues to shine in Melbourne, with Breakfast helmed by Christian O’Connell. This radio ratings survey marks the 23rd #1 FM result for O’Connell and the 26th #1 FM result for the station.

“It’s a real powerhouse,” says Campbell. “I think when you have momentum it’s hard to stop – but the reason why it’s hard to stop is that there’s so much work that goes into the day-to-day content on that station, both the Breakfast show and the radio station itself. Sue Carter is a master content director, she writes a lot of the imaging which gives the station its personality.

I continue to be mesmerised by the success of that station. It’s very, very impressive.”

On Melbourne’s KIIS 101.1, Campbell says that things are looking up after a bumpy start to 2023.

“The results are actually pretty good for us – the Breakfast show is flat, which is great. The key to success at that station is going to be through Breakfast. We have good cumes moving through that station, they’re just not sticky enough. That’s the goal for the Breakfast team, is to make that cume stick and keep them listening longer.”
