News.com.au launches weekly Gen Z vodcast Unserious

Unserious tackles the stories, online debates and workplace questions shaping young Australians’ group chats.

News.com.au has launched Unserious, a weekly vodcast aimed at young Australians and the stories driving their feeds, group chats and online debates.

The series is hosted by deputy editor Liz Burke, journalist Mary Madigan and Sky News host Caleb Bond. Each episode unpacks the week’s biggest stories, smaller controversies and issues affecting Gen Z audiences.

Topics range from tax exemptions young Australians may be missing to whether thongs are acceptable workplace attire. The hosts also share the inconsequential things they are taking too seriously each week.

What is Unserious?

Unserious is designed as a weekly format that blends news, commentary and debate. It draws on the conversations already taking place across social media and private group chats.

The show brings together two younger media voices from different sides of the political spectrum, with Burke acting as a moderator across the discussion.

News.com.au editor Kerry Warren said the format was built to better reflect the interests and tone of younger audiences.

“Young Australians are hungry for conversations that reflect their lives, but so much of what’s out there either talks down to them or ignores them altogether. We wanted to change that. Unserious gives our audience something genuinely different: real debate between sharp, contrasting voices on the issues that matter to their generation, wrapped in the kind of energy they want to watch.

“It’s an extension of what news.com.au does best – meeting our audience where they are and giving them content worth their time.”

New episodes of Unserious will be released weekly and supported by editorial coverage on news.com.au.

Unserious is available on YouTube, Apple Podcasts, Spotify and other podcast platforms.
