Melbourne Radio Ratings
GfK Survey 5, Survey Period: Sunday July 11 to Saturday August 14

UP: 1116 SEN Sports +0.2
DOWN: KIIS 101.1 -1.0

3AW 15.1% (15.5%)

Cume: 785,000 (+2,000)
2020 results: Best/worst
Best 10+ 20.6% (13.3%)
Best Breakfast 28.4% (15.9%)

The market leader now has 54 consecutive surveys as Melbourne’s #1 station. While overall the station result was down ever so slightly, Ross and Russ at breakfast managed to edge higher from 20.1% to 20.8%. Neil Mitchell was a clear market leader in morning on 17.3%. Sharing market leadership with ABC Melbourne in drive was Tom Elliott with both stations on 11.7%. 3AW continues to command over 30% of all listeners 65+, while share 55-64 was up 1.8 to 19.4%.

Gold 104.3 10.0% (10.4%)

Cume 1,060,000 (-8,000)
2020 results: Best/worst
Best 10+ 10.8% (8.7%)
Best Breakfast 9.4% (7.2%)

In a survey of very little movement up or down for the FM stations, Gold managed to hold it market leadership. Also a favourite for a 10th consecutive time was the Christian O’Connell breakfast show with Jack Post and Patrina Jones. Gold also remains #1 FM across the day and in drive. The station maintains leadership over 40-54 and is #1 FM 55-64.

Nova 100 6.7% (6.7%)

Cume 1,035,000 (+18,000)
2020 results: Best/worst
Best 10+ 8.3% (5.3%)
Best breakfast 8.3% (4.6%)

Nova did well holding its audience steady in the circumstances. When you drill into the numbers though a fall in breakfast and drive was offset by a rise in evenings where Smallzy dominates the timeslot. Nova remains #1 18-24 with a bigger lead while a big lift 25-39 lifted the station from #3 to #2 behind only Fox.

101.1 Fox FM 6.9% (7.0%)

Cume 1,053,000 (-19,000)
2020 results: Best/worst
Best 10+ 8.4% (5.2%)
Best breakfast 8.3% (5.0%)

Fifi, Fev and Nick saw share steady as they can now claim #2 FM breakfast, overtaking Nova this survey. Afternoon and drive continue to deliver the best shares, both just over 8%. Fox slipped from #2 to #3 18-24 yet remains the leader 25-39.

smoothfm 91.5 7.9% (7.8%)

Cume 1,002,000 (+7,000)
2020 results: Best/worst
Best 10+ 9.7% (6.5%)
Best Breakfast 7.3% (5.0%)

A good result with the station the only FM brand to lift share, albeit by just 0.1. Breakfast with Mike and Jen was steady on 6.3% with morning, afternoon and drive all edging upwards. smoothfm remains #2 FM 40-54 and 55-64, yet there is a big gap between it and demo leader Gold.

KIIS 101.1 FM 4.5% (5.5%)

Cume 842,000 (-127,000)
2020 results: Best/worst
Best 10+ 6.4% (4.4%)
Best Breakfast 7.1% (4.4%)

In three surveys the share has tumbled from 6.5% to 4.5% which is now the second-lowest share in at least six years. Cume also took a battering this survey. That’s what happens when you farewell a breakfast team member. PJ out and Lauren Phillips in. As Mediaweek noted yesterday, ARN is now in the breakfast rebuild phase with a new campaign launching for the Jase and Lauren show. Collateral damage across the day was minimal apart from a drive fall of 2.1 to 4.8% where the station now ranks last amongst the FM competition.

105.1 Triple M 4.5% (4.7%)

Cume 629,000 (-15,000)
2020 results: Best/worst
Best 10+ 6.2% (5.0%)
Best breakfast 6.8% (5.2%)

Station share has hit a new low as lockdown claims more victims. Also suffering is the new breakfast show with the build of the new Marty Sheargold show needing to wait until presumably recent lockdowns end. Mick Molloy claims the station’s best share again and his drive share of 5.5% was up 0.6. Share 10-17 more than doubled!

SEN 3.0% (2.8%)

Cume 319,000 (+56,000)
2020 results: Best/worst
Best 10+ 3.0% (1.6%)
Best Breakfast 3.2% (2.0%)

The station share is the equal best since 2019 – a year that peaked at 4.5%. The two moves of note were Dwayne Russell’s afternoon share up 0.5 to 3.7% and Andy Maher and Bob Murphy in drive up 0.8 to 3.2%. Two healthy demo results were 40-54 +1.5 to 4.7% and 55-64 +1.1 to 4.4%.

Magic 1278 1.3% (1.3%)

Cume 125,000 (-10,000)
2020 results: Best/worst
Best 10+ 1.4% (0.2%)
Best Breakfast 0.8% (0.5%)

Very little movement this survey with afternoon down 0.3 and then drive and evening each up 0.3. Demo shares are all tiny with 65+ best on 1.7%.

3MP 1377 1.0% (1.0%)

Cume 88,000 (+5,000)

No movement here overall. In the dayparts a fall of 0.5 to 1.0% in afternoon was offset by a lift of 0.4 to 2.0% in evening.

RSN 927 0.4% (0.3%)

Cume: 61,000 (+21,000)

A cume lift of 50% was the highlight for the station in its first year back in the GfK surveys. Weekends continue to draw the biggest share, with the audience up from 0.7% to 1.1%.
