Alex will take over as host of Strawny for Breakfast on the Mid North Coast’s Triple M, starting on Monday 16 January

Mark Strachan OAM, also known as Strawny, will pass the microphone on to his son, Alex Strachan, following the announcement of his retirement back in October.

Alex will take over as host of Strawny for Breakfast on the Mid North Coast’s Triple M, starting on Monday 16 January.

Strachan has been in the broadcast industry for more than 15 years, from announcing stints on-air, production, panel operations and in the chopper as a traffic reporter. His extensive resume includes presenting the Breakfast on show on Mid North Coast’s Hit stations (then Star FM), working for the iconic 2Day FM Take40 Australia show, shifts on the Central Coast and Sydney’s Triple M – and he even worked as a production assistant for Channel 7’s Sunrise and The Morning Show.

Strachan now returns home to the Mid North Coast to carry on the 33 year legacy his father is passing on to him.

“I can’t say I’ve ever heard of a Breakfast show being passed down from a father to his son. I spent a lot of time around 2MC – now Triple M – as a kid coming to work with Dad. His love of the craft rubbed off on me and I feel honoured to be waking up the Mid North Coast,” he said.

Mark Strachan said of his son: “Radio has always been part of Alex’s DNA. I am very proud of what he’s achieved in various forms of the media since he left the Mid North Coast 12 years ago to work mainly in Sydney and for a short time in London.

“Realistically, I never thought this would happen, but now it has, and I’m pretty chuffed to think the same things that motivated me, motivate him. A passion for radio and the people of this great area, the Mid North Coast, the best address in Australia. PS, the first 33 years are the hardest, then it’s easy…”

Blair Woodcock, SCA head of content – Regional, said: “Finding someone to fill the shoes of Mark ‘Strawny’ Strachan was always going to be a big ask.

“Mark leaves behind a legacy that nothing will revile, but, when his son put his hand up we all thought this is the one person who could make it his own, with a level of passion and respect for what came before him.

“Plus, we don’t have the change any of the marketing! Strawny for Breakfast is back for 2023!”

Wake up with Strawny for Breakfast from Monday January 16 on Mid North Coast’s 100.7 and 106.7 Triple M or on the LiSTNR app.
