Alice Griffin to take the reins of Junkee as editor-in-chief

Junkee

Griffin was previously editor of MTV Australia

Junkee Media has announced the appointment of Alice Griffin as editor-in-chief of Junkee. Her role will take the youth brand into its next phase, driving the publisher’s mission, voice, and strategy across all platforms.

Griffin will commence her new role on the 2nd of November and forge a new editorial direction that builds on Junkee’s relationship with its millennial and Gen Z audiences.

Previously editor of MTV Australia, Griffin grew a readership of young Australians interested in music, emerging culture, and social justice. She wrote about the team’s achievements in her final editor’s letter for the publication.

An experienced editor, writer, and presenter, Griffin has over a decade of experience in journalism and content strategy. Her experience includes travel presenting across Europe and Asia as well as roles in content strategy and lifestyle journalism in Sydney and London.

Commenting on her appointment, Alice Griffin said: “Junkee has always been dedicated to helping young Australians unpack the culture and goings-on of the world around them: a witty, original home on the internet that wades through the noise and hones in on what matters. It’s been a place of discussion and debate, a place that spotlights underrepresented voices, and a place to get lost in a good story. I’m thrilled to kick off this next exciting phase of Junkee alongside a team of incredibly talented journalists and producers who continue to make this media brand one of Australia’s best.”

Owner of RACAT Group, publisher of Junkee, David Haslingden, said: “Junkee has always been a trusted source of news and entertainment for young Australians. We are delighted to see Alice lead the team and continue to build on our loyal, diverse, and engaged youth audience of over 1.3million unique users each month. Alice’s international experience spanning content strategy and lifestyle journalism has set her up to excel at Junkee and we count ourselves as very fortunate to have her join our team.”

Griffin moves to Junkee from her position as content & editorial director at travel technology company, TRAVLR.
