Webjet taps ChatGPT to help Aussies plan Bali trips faster

Provide cheapest one-way fare with no return.

Webjet has launched a ChatGPT app that allows travellers to search and compare flights and hotels directly in chat.

The online travel agency said the launch makes it one of the first Australian OTAs to bring travel search into ChatGPT, enabling users to describe their destinations and dates and receive tailored hotel and flight options.

Instead of switching between tabs or sites, travellers can explore property details, images and flight options in one place before clicking through to Webjet to complete their booking.

How the app works

The Webjet ChatGPT app supports conversational planning, allowing users to search in natural language.

Examples include prompts such as “Find me hotels in Auckland next weekend” or “Show me the flight options from Melbourne to Bali in the first week of July”.

The app can return hotel options and available flights from Webjet’s inventory, with side-by-side comparisons to help travellers review prices, dates and properties before deciding.

Users can also explore property images and hotel room types in chat.

When ready to book, customers are directed to Webjet to complete the reservation.

Available to ChatGPT users

Logged-in ChatGPT users across Free, Plus and Pro plans can connect to the Webjet app through the Apps tab in ChatGPT.

Once connected, users can access the app directly in conversation using @webjet.

Part of Webjet’s AI agenda

The launch is part of Webjet Group’s Strategic Growth Plan, which focuses on applying AI to travel and supporting technology-led growth.

The company said the ChatGPT app extends that strategy by bringing Webjet’s capabilities into platforms Australians are already using.

Katrina Barry on the launch

Katrina Barry, Group CEO and Managing Director of Webjet Group, said AI platforms are becoming part of how Australians make travel decisions.

“As these platforms become more embedded in how people make decisions, it’s important trusted travel brands like Webjet are part of that experience.

“The Webjet ChatGPT app makes it easier for travellers to search, compare and plan flights and hotels conversationally, before clicking directly through to Webjet to book.

“It’s a simpler, more intuitive way to plan travel in the environments customers are already using every day.”
