TV Ratings July 5, 2022: MasterChef breaks hearts as the top four is revealed

Total TV Ratings: June 28

Topping non-news in total TV was Home and Away, which lifted 24% to bring 956,000 to Summer Bay. Seven also proved to be a heavyweight in total TV with Big Brother – 736,000 watched as Tim gambled several times and came up big each time, lifting 42%. The Good Doctor rose 54% for a total audience of 490,000, while The Rookie lifted a massive 73% for a total audience of 383,000.

Lifting 18% was 10’s MasterChef, with 904,000 watching a pressure test by Chocolate Queen Kirsten Tibballs. On Nine, Australian Ninja Warrior sprung up 25% for a total audience of 774,000. The ABC Of debut episode featuring Ita Buttrose lifted 19% for a total audience of 754,000.

Nine has won the night with a primary share of 21.0% and a network share of 30.7%. As Wimbledon continues, 9Gem has won the night in multichannels with a 4.7% share.

On Nine, A Current Affair took a trip to Adelaide to meet the self-proclaimed ‘Fruit Ninja’, and covered Australia’s most mortgage stressed neighbourhoods after the interest rate rise for 719,000 viewers. Australian Ninja Warrior charged into the second night of the semi finals, with 470,000 watching runs come down to photo finishes as ninjas battle for a spot in the grand final. 

Home and Away kicked the night off for Seven, with 475,000 tuning in. On Big Brother, Estelle and Reggie were revealed to be hiding out in Big Brother’s Secret Arcade, and the housemates found out that both could win their way back into the game by taking part in a second chance challenge. 322,000 watched as Reggie earned her way back into the house and Estelle was sent home.

On 10, The Project (252,000 6:30pm / 363,000 7pm) checked in on the effort to help free a cargo ship that’s stranded  off Sydney’s south coast, and interviewed New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern. It was a heartbreaker on MasterChef as Julie Goodwin was sent home, just missing out on the top four. Still in Tasmania, 587,000  watched the cooks serve up a four course service challenge, where each contestant had to showcase either whisky or gin. On The Cheap Seats, regular host Tim McDonald was off this week, with 387,000 watching Emma Holland fill in.

7.30 covered the Reserve Bank increasing the cash rate by half a per cent and Australia’s submarine deal with France for an audience of 470,000. The ABC Of continued to look back through the archives, bringing 399,000 down memory lane alongside Evonne Goolagong Cawley. Looking Black delved into the impact of Indigenous storytelling at the ABC, rounding out the night for 183,000.

The highest rating show on SBS was Who Do You Think You Are? which had 207,000 tune in to the episode featuring ​​Justin Hodges.
