The season finale of Rush will see the remaining contestants dropped in South Africa for a final challenge that will test them to their limits. The finale premieres at 7:30 pm on Nine and 9Now.
In the second last episode, the four remaining contestants – CK, Sofia, Adam and Hamish – were dropped in Kenya, East Africa.
When the competitors were alerted that they could remove their blackout goggles and noise-cancelling headphones, they discovered that were in the middle of a traditional Kenyan dance called the Adumu, otherwise known as the jumping dance.
The episode ended with Adam and Hamish as the last team to make it to the escape zone, which meant one of them would be sent home. In a game of Rush roulette which involved a red and green smoke flare; whoever picked the red would be eliminated. Adam picked the red flare and was eliminated from the show.
The series has seen contestants drop in nine different countries, Brazil, Turkey, Jordan, India, Thailand, Ireland, France, Kenya and South Africa. The teams have had one mission: be the first to get out and move on to the next destination.
This month, Mediaweek caught up with the director of content at Endemol Shine Australia, Tara McWilliams about Rush and how it inspires viewers to see the world after the perils of COVID lockdowns.
The premise of Rush was born out of the simple idea of dropping someone somewhere without their two senses that most take for granted.
“Imagine if you clicked two fingers and ended up somewhere you had never been before, and that shock of not knowing where you are, not knowing your surroundings and being completely out of your comfort zone, that’s where the idea for Rush really grew from there,” McWilliams said.
“Then it developed as a concept by asking questions during the development stage such as how do we make it interesting? How do we make it culturally immersive? How do we bring these countries to life, as opposed to just racing through them?”
The Rush Finale premieres at 7:30 pm on Nine and 9Now.
