• Gallen is a $2.50 outsider to beat Browne at $1.51

Former NRL star Paul Gallen will take on former WBA world champion Lucas “Big Daddy” Browne in a heavyweight clash on Wednesday, April 21 at WIN Entertainment Centre, Wollongong.

Boxing fans will have access to all of the action with Main Event showcasing the fight on Foxtel and Kayo.

Paul Gallen, the former Cronulla Sharks skipper, has so far had an impressive boxing track record since making the code-switch. He last defeated former UFC star Mark Hunt in December resulting in an undefeated boxing record of 10-0-1, with five of those wins coming via knockout.

His opponent, 41-year old Lucas Browne has had his own impressive boxing career becoming the first Australian heavyweight world champion after defeating Uzbekistan’s Ruslan Chagaev in 2016. He currently stands at 29 wins and 2 losses, with 25 of those wins coming via knockout.

Gallen is a $2.50 outsider to beat Browne ($1.51), but Sportsbet reports that punters are in his corner. Gallen holds 70% of the bets in the head-to-head market.

Browne is $2.50 to knock-out Gallen and Gallen is $6.00 to inflict a KO or TKO on Browne. Punters so far are favouring a points decision for Gallen, at $4.20 while Browne is $3.75 to win the six-round bout on points.

“Who would have thought that Paul Gallen would win a popularity contest. He has a fight to win first, but punters are rallying behind Gallen for what looks to be his toughest pro bout,’’ said sportsbet.com.au’s Rich Hummerston.
