TV guide: October highlights for Stan

• There is a lot in store for Stan next month

The streaming platform recently announced a whole bunch of family films from award-winning studio DreamWorks Animation will now be available on Stan in time for the spring school holidays. The titles include Kung Fu Panda and Madagascar franchises. But what about for the adults? Here is what’s to come in October on Stan. 

• Godfather of Harlem on October 1

The epic crime drama set in the 60s follows the revered gangster after he returns from prison to find the neighbourhood he once ruled in shambles. Godfather of Harlem has a strong cast starring Academy Award-winner Forest Whitaker as feared crime boss Bumpy Johnson, along with an all-star cast including Giancarlo Esposito (Better Call Saul), Australia’s own Lucy Fry (Stan’s Wolf Creek)Vincent D’Onofrio (Law & Order: Criminal Intent)Ilfenesh Hadera (Billions) and Paul Sorvino (Goodfellas). The first season of Godfather of Harlem is released on Stan on October 1, with new episodes every Tuesday.

 

 

• RuPaul’s Drag Race UK on October 4

RuPaul’s Drag Race heads to London to see if 10 Brits have got what it takes to become Queen of the runway. The first season of the UK version will follow the winning formula. RuPaul and Michelle Visage are joined by Alan Carr and Graham Norton as rotating judges. Season one of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK will be released on Stan on October 4, with new episodes every Friday (same day as UK). 

 

 

• Get Shorty on October 7

The comedy-drama finds mobster-turned-filmmaker Miles, played by Chris O’Dowd, becoming even more ruthless as he continues to climb the Hollywood ladder while his washed up partner Rick (Ray Romano) deals with the FBI. Season 3 comes out on Stan on October 7, with new episodes every Monday (same day as US). 

 

• All American on October 8

The second season of the TV series based on the real life school years of Spencer Paysinger – a formal NFL star – looks at Spencer James (Daniel Ezra) to make a huge moral decision. Should he turn his back on his success or should he stay at the affluent Beverly Hills school that can help further his football dream? Season 2 of All American is out on October 8 and there will be new episodes released every Tuesday (same day as US). 

 

 

Looking for Alaska on October 19

Season one explores a bored teenager who starts attending Culver Creek Boarding School where he meets free spirit Alaska, who changes his perception of life. Looking for Alaska is created by the team behind Gossip Girl. Charlie Plummer plays Miles ‘Pudge’ Halter and Kristine Froseth (The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair) plays Alaska. Season 1 is available on October 19 (same day as US), with all episodes released at once.
