Award winning Aussie artist, Tash Sultana, returns home to perform an intimate performance at the iconic Chapel Off Chapel in South Yarra, on Sunday, 23 May at 10am on MTV.
Surrounded by an arrangement of instruments and a shrine of mementos, Sultana performs a set of eleven songs to an audience of 150 fans.
The gender-fluid multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter, producer and engineer, has been dubbed one of the hardest working music exports in Australia.
From a viral bedroom recording of Jungle and street-stopping busking performances in Melbourne, to sold out global tours, Tash’s industry integrity is going from strength to strength.
The recent release of their sophomore album, Terra Firma is coated in Tash’s trademark looped and layered jams with a fusion of soul, funk, R&B, folk, rock, hip-hop.
The album, recorded, engineered, performed, arranged, and produced by Tash debuted at #1 and comes four years after their ARIA-winning #2 debut album Flow State. The critically acclaimed release featured the 2x Platinum single Jungle and the Platinum-selling single Mystik.
Transfixing the crowd with a set of looped and layered jams including Mystik and Pretty Lady, their dear friend and vocalist, Josh Cashman also joins them on stage for a rendition of Dream My Life Away.
Sultana said about their performance: “This is a set that has never been seen. So this is the very first time and I’ve been saving all of this for this moment.”
“The best way to listen to it is to turn the light off and light a candle or incense. I want you to feel sensory overdrive by the end of the set. So dim the lights and just watch.”
Tash Sultana becomes the sixth Australian act to be featured on MTV Unplugged Melbourne, joining Gang of Youths, Amy Shark, DMA’S, The Rubens and Courtney Barnett, who have all taken to the stage with stripped back performances
