Sydney Radio Ratings 2022 Survey 1: 2GB and KIIS start another year at #1

It’s only survey one and already Ben Fordham has recorded 19.0%, his equal-best result since taking over the timeslot and an all-time breakfast high. There was a significant drop-off though for Ray Hadley with share dipping 3.5 to 14.9%. Highest at the station this survey belongs to evenings where Brooke Corte and John Stanley pilot the station from 7pm until midnight.

This is the 25th consecutive winning survey for Kyle and Jackie O as Sydney FM leaders. All dayparts at KIIS were up with the exception of evening where share dipped 1.6 to 5.1%. Will and Woody are the new #1 commercial drive on 9.1%. Demo shares were steady with clear leadership 18-24 and 25-39.

A survey one breakfast share of 9.1% has been a lucky number for Jonesy and Amanda in the past couple of years. It was their highest number in the three previous years and something they achieved twice in 2020 and it is how they ended 2021 too. WSFM was also over 9% in the morning and afternoon. The station remains #1 FM 40-54 and 55-64.

This is the smallest station share since 2016. Breakfast doesn’t share that record though and it was the best breakfast share in the past four surveys. Morning, afternoon and evening shares were all over 8%. smoothfm ranks #2 FM 55-65 and #1 FM 65+.

Nova 96.9 6.8% (6.8%)

Nova has held on to its solid 6.8% which was its best number from last year. Breakfast with Fitzy and Wippa pushed higher to 7.0% which is their best breakfast result since the shortened 2020 ratings year. Drive bounced 1.9 to 8.9% to only narrowly trail KIIS dive. The station also trails only KIIS 18-24 and 25-39 in FM rankings.

Tough result to welcome back the breakfast team to the new year with share dipping 1.0 to 3.6%, a new low for the station. The numbers pick up a little, but not a lot, later in the day with afternoon on 6.0% (+0.2). Triple M is most competitive 18-24 where it ranks #3.

Promising start to the 2022 surveys with share all people and breakfast up. Hughesy, Ed and Erin recorded 3.3%, its best result in five surveys. Station’s high point is just 5.0% which both afternoon and drive share. Best demo share is 25-39 with 7.6%, ranking the station #4 FM.

Station on the comeback trail perhaps with its best share since 2018. Breakfast also posted a recent high with 2.2%. Station high is 4.2% in afternoon.

Breakfast has bounced around a bit in the past 12 months. It jumped again this survey, up from 0.9% to 1.5%. Drive has the next best weekday share on 1.2% and weekend recorded 1.5%.

Breakfast share over the period covered a number of hosts as Vossy and new co-host Greg Alexander started later into the year as is the SEN style. The audience liked what they heard though with share tripling from 0.2% to 0.6%. Evening also performed well with share up 0.7 to 1.3%.
