I’m A Celebrity…How did first big franchise of the year perform on second night?

The new year is only four nights old but already there have been a number of important TV ratings results.

The old year ended as it normally does with a ratings win for ABC TV, usually its only first-place finish for the year. However this year should be different for the ABC. It is a Federal Election year which means the broadcaster could again rank #1 on the Saturday night of the election as voters tune in for its coverage. This last happened for the channel after the 2016 vote.

Recap ABC’s NYE ratings win

• The ABC iview live stream results of NYE coverage was the strongest ever with 635,000 plays on ABC iview, up considerably (+64%) on the 2020 result of 387,000.

• The ABC TV primary channel achieved its highest daily live stream result ever, generating 471,000 daily plays.

• ABC was the leading network NYE in metro markets with a 5-city metro prime-time share of 26.1% (up on the 2020 result of 23.2% and top overnight share for 2021). The highest share was in Sydney with a primetime share of 34.4%.

• ABC TV’s NYE2021: Midnight Fireworks was the #1 program of the night and NYE2021: Countdown to Midnight was ranked #2.

• NYE2021: Midnight Fireworks achieved an average audience of 2.0 million across ABC TV and ABC NEWS (Combined Metro & Regional).

Week 2 TV ratings action

The main highlight for the start of Week 2 of OzTAM 2022 Survey is the launch of the first major TV franchise of the year – Network 10’s I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!

Check the highlights from the first episode which we published yesterday here.

While the first night result is important, the real test is how many viewers back up to watch successive episodes in the first few days of launch without too big a drop-off. While there has been a fall from night one, the good news for 10 is that I’m A Celebrity remains a clear #1 entertainment and non-news show.
