The new, much-requested feature will roll out to all members around the world starting today.

Netflix has announced the launch of its Profile Transfer feature.

Profile Transfer allows people using an account to transfer a profile — keeping the personalised recommendations, viewing history, My List, saved games, and other settings — when they start their own membership.

The new feature responds to the changing dynamics in relationships. The streaming service noted that throughout these life changes – family growth, relationships ending and people moving – the Netflix experience should stay the same

The new, much-requested feature will roll out to all members around the world starting today.

Members will be notified by email as soon as Profile Transfer becomes available to accounts.

To transfer a profile, Netflix users can go to the “Transfer Profile” option when and hover over a profile icon in the dropdown menu on the homepage — then simply follow the instructions.

The Profile Transfer can always be turned off in an account settings at any time.

The streaming giant said: “No matter what’s going on, let your Netflix profile be a constant in a life full of changes so you can sit back, relax and continue watching right from where you left off.”

This comes after Netflix’s chief operating officer and chief product officer Greg Peters recently confirmed the start of a new Netflix subscriber tier was just weeks away.

That new tier comes with ads in return for a lower monthly fee. The streaming platform hopes the return will be two-fold – increased revenue from ad income and increased revenue by appealing to potential customers who stayed away because of cost.

Peter said: “We’re excited to launch Basic with Ads – Netflix’s lower priced ad-supported plan – in November.

“Unmissable entertainment at unbeatable value: Basic with Ads will cost just $6.99 per month in Australia and will launch on 4 November.”

Peters noted the new tier will initially be available in 12 countries: Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Spain, the UK and the US.

Netflix said it will then have a plan for every fan: “Our current plans and members will not be impacted. Basic with Ads complements our existing ad-free Basic, Standard and Premium plans.”
