• Celebrations include the gifting of $30,000 in gold bullion

On October 7, 1991, Bob Hawke was Prime Minister of Australia, Everything I Do (I Do It For You) by Bryan Adams was top of the ARIA charts, Terminator 2: Judgement Day was smashing Australian box-office records, and Melbourne’s Gold104.3 was officially launched. Fast forward to today, and Melbourne celebrates Gold104.3’s milestone 30th birthday with a party that lasts all month, including the gifting of $30,000 in gold bullion.

On the milestone achievement, Gold104.3 content director, Sue Carter said, “We can’t celebrate 30 years without saying thank you to our listeners.  They’re family. We’ve kept them company through so many major milestones in their lives, and they’ve been there through many of ours. They tell us when we get it right and they forgive us if we get it wrong. Gold isn’t our radio station, it’s Melbourne’s station.

Of the 30 years ARN’s chief content officer, Duncan Campbell said, “Gold104.3 is a much-loved radio station in Melbourne, which is reflected by the consistent, outstanding radio ratings survey results.  We are really proud of all the dedicated hard-working individuals across the on-air teams, producers, marketers and activations who have made Gold104.3 so great. Their passion is unsurpassed as they continue to deliver outstanding audio every day. This is a day for everyone to celebrate.“

It comes just after 9am-midday presenter Craig “Huggy” Huggins celebrated 30 years with the station, having jumped behind the mic while the station was still Melbourne’s 3KZFM.
