Melbourne Radio Ratings 2022, Survey 5: 3AW still #1, KIIS FM makes its move

3AW has dipped 1.2 points, however, that hasn’t left a dent on the station’s lead in the market – maintaining a healthy 2.7 point lead over its nearest competitor in Gold 104.3.

Breakfast with Ross and Russ was down 1.5 points as its market-leading share now sits at 17.6%. Earlier this month, Russel Howcroft re-signed as co-host of the breakfast show, partnering up with Ross Stevenson for another four years.  

Mornings with Neil Mitchell was down 1.3 points, but also holds onto the market-leading share with 17.7%. The station continues to dominate 55-64 and 65+ with a share of 34.7%.

Despite a slight dip of 0.2 points, Gold continues to set the standard for FM radio in Melbourne. The station’s cume is now just shy of 1.28m after gaining 28,000. Christian O’Connell is still the top FM breakfast show in the market despite a dip of 0.7 points. Gold has held on to its #1 position in afternoons, and also remains #1 in the 40-54 demographic.

smoothfm has recorded its highest result since Survey 2 2020, with a lift of 0.1 points bringing it to a total share of 9.3%. The station continues to outrank its sister station, Nova. A jump of 4.6 points in the 18-24 demographic has meant that smooth’s best demographic is no longer 55-64, now recording 16.8% in the 18-24 demo.

A lift of 0.5 points and a huge increase in cume has seen Fox FM shorten the gap between itself and smoothfm. Fifi, Fev and Nick’s breakfast share was up 1.2 points to 9.5%. The station’s highest daypart was a tie between drive with Carrie and Tommy, and afternoons both sitting at 10.4%.

Nova has lifted 0.7 points overall. The breakfast show of  Chrissie, Sam and Browny has jumped up 1.4 points to 9.5%, surpassing its previous high for the year of 9.2%. The drive slot lifted 1.2 with  Kate, Tim and Joel now on 10.1%. The station was #1 in the 10-17 demographic.

KIIS has held on to the fifth spot in the Melbourne commercial radio market after gaining 1.1 points in Survey 5. The station’s cume now sits well over the one million mark after gaining 107,000 – totalling a gain of 203,000 over the last two surveys. Breakfast with Jase and Lauren has gained 1.6 points in the daypart, for a total of 8.1%.

105.1 Triple M 5.8% (5.9%)

Triple M has slid 0.1 points, remaining steady as the #6 commercial radio station in the market. The breakfast share for Marty Sheargold remains fairly steady at 5.3, also sliding only 0.1 points. Triple M’s best daypart during the week was 6% in drive with James Brayshaw and Billy Brownless, with the station’s best session overall being 6.9% on weekends.

SEN has lifted 0.3 points for a total of 3%. The breakfast share continues to improve, now up 0.2 points to 3.1%. The station has lifted across all dayparts, with the best demo 25-39 with 5%.

3MP has stayed steady in Survey 5, with a 1.2% share.  The station’s best daypart was in the mornings with 1.5%, and its best demo was 65+ with 2.9%.
