Kyle Sandilands has broken his silence over the implosion of his long-running on-air partnership with Jackie O Henderson, insisting he is not in breach of his contract and urging ARN to allow him to return to the airwaves.
In a statement issued Tuesday, the KIIS FM breakfast host said he wanted to speak “directly to my listeners, my colleagues and the public about what has been happening” following the dramatic collapse of one of Australian radio’s most commercially successful duos.
“I want to be on air. I want to be with my audience. I want to do the job I have done my entire adult life,” Sandilands said.
“I am asking ARN to do the right thing: honour our agreement and let me get back to doing what I do best – entertaining the people who have supported this show for more than two decades.”
Sandilands also disputed the network’s claim that he had breached the terms of his contract.
“I have a contract with ARN that runs until 2034,” he said.
“I am committed to that contract. Despite what ARN says, I am not in breach of that contract.”
“The idea our partnership could end like this is devastating”
In the statement, Sandilands acknowledged the on-air argument that triggered the dispute and said he apologised to Henderson shortly afterwards.
“On 20 February, I had an argument with Jackie on air about something that had been bothering me for a while,” he said.
“I said things I wish I had said differently. That same evening, I sent Jackie a message telling her I was sorry for anything I said that didn’t go down well, that I love her and care for her, and that I could have handled it better.”

He also emphasised the depth of their personal and professional relationship.
“Jackie and I have worked together for over 25 years. She is one of the most important people in my life. The idea that our partnership could end like this is devastating to me.”
However, Sandilands criticised ARN’s handling of the situation, claiming the network prevented him from contacting Henderson or speaking with colleagues.
“ARN told me that I am not allowed to contact Jackie. They have told me that I am not allowed to speak to my colleagues,” he said.
“I did what was asked even though it made it impossible for me to do the one thing anyone in my position would want to do – pick up the phone and talk to the person I have been talking with continually for my entire career.”

Radio partnership implodes
The statement marks the first public acknowledgement from Sandilands since the long-running radio partnership between the KIIS FM breakfast hosts imploded last week.
News first broke that Henderson “cannot continue to work with Kyle”, bringing an abrupt halt to the duo that has dominated Australian breakfast radio for more than two decades.
Shortly after, ARN confirmed Sandilands had been suspended following what the network described as an “act of serious misconduct” that breached the terms of his contract.
The dispute reportedly stemmed from an on-air argument during a segment in which Henderson discussed astrology, sparking a heated exchange between the pair.
For the Australian radio sector, the fallout has landed like a small earthquake.
The Kyle & Jackie O brand has long been a central pillar of ARN’s commercial strategy, underpinning KIIS FM’s breakfast dominance and commanding some of the highest advertising revenues in the market.

Jackie O breaks her silence
Henderson addressed the controversy late last week in a statement, pushing back on speculation surrounding her departure from the show.
“There has been a lot of speculation and misinformation about my departure from the show,” she said.
“I want to make one important point very clear: I did not quit or resign. I am deeply saddened by the events of the past week and the possibility of the show ending. This has come as a shock to me, as it has to everyone else.”
With both hosts now speaking publicly, the dispute has become one of the most closely watched dramas in the Australian media sector, raising questions about the future of ARN’s biggest audio franchise and the fate of the Kyle & Jackie O brand.
