The duo are determined to know if drivers are still using the courtesy wave

On the Hit Network’s national Summer Drive show, radio duo Jimmy & Nath are embarking on a road trip this week to ‘Save the Wave.’

Jimmy Smith and Nath Roye are determined to know if drivers are still using the courtesy wave (aka – thank you wave) on the road, so the duo are driving from Melbourne to Townsville to find out.

During Summer Drive, they have recruited listeners to become ‘Wave Warriors’, those people who put their hand up on the road to ‘Save The Wave’.

Road trip schedule:

Monday 19th December – Melbourne
Tuesday 20th December – Sydney
Wednesday 21st December – Brisbane
Thursday 22nd December – Rockhampton
Friday 23rd December – Townsville

After day 1, the tally sits at 45 waves and 35 non-waves.

Before embarking on their Save the Wave road trip, the pair decided they needed to master the waver at URBN Surf.

Additionally, a flag has been made to put on a listener’s personal flagpole overlooking the Hume Highway, and the owners of a pizza shop in Coffs Harbour are making a special ‘waving’ pizza.

Jimmy & Nath will stop at a Brisbane Bullets game on Wednesday night to get the crowd to do a Mexican Wave (which will add to the official wave tally). On Friday, 23 December, the pair will do an outside broadcast in Townsville from Anelay The Strand from 3pm local time.

On hosting the Summer Drive show, which commenced December 5, Smith said: “When asked if we would do Summer Drive all I could say was, ‘Is this a joke? Surely this is a joke…’’”

Smith and Roye are best mates, radio nerds, and cheeky partners in crime who started their radio careers in 2015.

Their #1 Breakfast show in Hobart led to a national gig, the boys now broadcast every weeknight for the Late Nights shift and Weekend Breakfast Australia-wide on the Hit Network.
