‘Wordle’ set to become a TV show with Savannah Guthrie hosting

It’s being produced by Universal in partnership with Jimmy Fallon’s Electric Hot Dog, and The New York Times.

Jimmy Fallon has announced a new game show based on “Wordle,” the globally beloved word game from The New York Times Games.

The NBC show will be hosted by Today co-host, Savannah Guthrie, and produced by Universal, in partnership with Jimmy Fallon’s Electric Hot Dog, and The New York Times.

Fallon said in a statement: “I feel very honoured to be working with Savannah Guthrie on this show. Savannah has that rare combination of intelligence, charm, and warmth that makes everyone feel instantly welcome.

“And she obviously knows how to host a show. I am SUPER PROUD and HAPPY and I think we developed a SOLID GAMER for PRIME-time.”

Originally launched in 2021 and acquired by The New York Times in 2022, Wordle has become a cultural phenomenon, engaging millions of players daily worldwide and inspiring conversation across generations.

So it was just a matter of time before it made its way to the silver screen.

The timing of the announcement comes at a particularly difficult moment for Guthrie, who made an emotional Mother’s Day post about her missing mum, Nancy, on the weekend.

Guthrie captioned the video compilation of memories with her mum, “Mother, daughter, sister, Nonie – we miss you with every breath. We will never stop looking for you. We will never be at peace until we find you.

“We need help. Someone knows something that can make the difference. Call 1800CALLFBI. You can be anonymous and the reward remains available.

“Please keep praying. Bring her home.”

The search for Nancy Guthrie continues

Nancy Guthrie, 84, was dropped off at her home in Tucson, Arizona, by her family on the evening of 31 January, and then failed to appear at church the next morning.

Investigators believe Nancy was taken against her will from her home, but there has been little progress in the case.

The Guthrie family is offering a $1 USD million reward, in addition to $100,000 pledged by the FBI, for information leading to Nancy’s return.
