Instagram releasing election-themed products ahead of election

• Instagram partnered with Australian artist Tony Albert on the campaign.

To celebrate the voting process in Australia, Instagram has collaborated with award-winning artist Tony Albert to create four new election-themed stickers to use in Instagram stories which are available from May 16 through to election day on May 18.

Instagram will also launch an interactive story called ‘Aus Votes’, which will highlight posts from people you follow who use the election-themed stickers.

The products will assist Australians to access more information about voting, by tapping on the election-themed sticker in someone’s post, you can click directly through to the Australian Electoral Commission’s website to find further info.

The four stickers have been developed with acclaimed artist Tony Albert.  The designs are intended to express Alberts passion for the importance of voting, the iconography of election day, and an Australian sense of humour.

On the project, Albert commented: “The Federal Election is a time for all Australians to come together and have their voices heard, and these stickers represent an opportunity to share that experience together. Instagram is an important platform to express myself as an artist and connect with people in my community. I wanted the stickers to carry an important message about the power of the individual voice while being fun and engaging for everyone to use.”

John Tass-Parker, Head of Politics and Government at Instagram said:  “Australians share over one million Instagram Stories every day, so we’ve added these fun features to encourage people to express themselves on Election Day and connect with valuable information from the AEC.

“Around the world, we see voters using Instagram to engage with major civic moments and elections. Here in Australia, we’re celebrating the election through a customised product, designed in collaboration with Tony Albert to bring a uniquely Aussie flavour.”

Similar products have been used for elections in the United States, Indonesia, Brazil, and India. During the 2018 U.S. Midterms, more than 1,000 people per minute were posting the election sticker on Instagram Stories.
