Hamish and Andy retiring from radio in 2017

The duo will return SCA Hit Network in 2017 before they quit

At the end of their epic road trip this week, Hamish and Andy have announced their retirement from radio.

They will return to SCA Hit Network stations on March 27 2017 and work through until the end of November before quitting radio.

SCA released this statement as they made the announcement on air in Byron Bay:

HAMISH & ANDY’S EPIC TOUR OF OZ CAPS OFF THEIR PENULTIMATE YEAR ON RADIO

After a huge week driving from Melbourne all the way through to Byron Bay (via a detour to Wodonga and Rankins Springs) Hamish & Andy broadcast their last show for 2016 with a huge concert from The Beach Hotel, with performances from Guy Sebastian and The Temper Trap.

Tickets to the Byron gig sold out in hours as fans flocked to see the boy’s seminal rock band Cool Boys and The Front Man perform the ACDC classic It’s A Long Way to The Top.

With the adrenaline of rock and voyages across the country still buzzing through their veins, Hamish & Andy tonight announced that after 13 years of daily and weekly radio shows with Southern Cross Austereo 2017 will be their last year on radio.

“In light of new TV arrangements we were actually thinking of finishing up this year, but we are having so much fun so it seemed crazy to stop,” Andy said.

“It’s been 13 years of regular radio with SCA. It’s been awesome and our listeners are awesome, so it’s nice to head into 2017 with them knowing it will be our last.” Hamish added. “We’re not saying we’ll never return, but this will be our last radio year for some time.”

Hit Network’s Head of Content Gemma Fordham said “2017 will be a celebratory year for Hamish and Andy. The Hit Network has been their home for 13 glorious years and we look forward to jumping back into the archives and reliving the magic that has made them household names and the country’s unrivalled radio duet. They are working on a ‘10 Years in 10 Weeks’ special that will be mandatory listening for their fans, who have made them Australia’s number one FM drive show. No doubt the boys have plenty of other surprises left for us across all of next year and they know The Hit Network will always be their radio home!”

Hamish & Andy will ease their fans back in to the new year and extend the holiday cheer and gifts with their ‘10 Years in 10 Weeks’ special from Monday 16 January 2017 while they complete their new TV show. From Monday 27 March they return live to the drive shift for another year of Hamish & Andy adventures and merriment.
