Box Office: The Batman stands out as the big winner in a quiet week

This weekend the Australian box office made $11.49 million, down 31% from last week’s 16.68 million.

In the second week of release for The Batman, it’s still the main driver of revenue for the box office. This time the title role is being taken on by Robert Pattinson. The cast also includes Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as Riddler, and Colin Farrell as Penguin. Only two films managed to crack the $1m mark this week – The Batman (with $7.25 million) and Uncharted.

Joining the top five this week is Radhe Shyam, an Indian film set in Europe in the 1970s.

Dropping out of the top five this week is Monster Family 2 which debuted to #5 last week.

#1, The Batman, $7.25 million

Far and away the winner of the box office this weekend, The Batman averaged a huge $10,594 over 684 screens. The return of The Caped Crusader has pulled in a total of $23.09 million in its second week.

#2, Uncharted, $1.36 million

It’s a big drop from first to second this week. Based on the popular video game series that was inspired by Indiana Jones and other classic adventure films, Uncharted averaged $3,634 over 373 screens this week. In its fourth week, it has now grossed $15.28 million.

#3, Radhe Shyam, $377,419

There’s another big drop between second and third. The Indian romantic drama starring Prabhas and Pooja Hegde averaged $4,241 over 89 screens this week.

#4, Death on the Nile, $285,917

Staying steady in fourth this week, Death on the Nile is directed by and stars Sir Kenneth Branagh. Based on the 1937 Agatha Christie novel of the same title, this week it averaged $1,181 over 242 screens. It has made a total of $5.79 million.

#5, Belfast, $280,559

Rounding out the top five this week is Belfast, which follows the life of a working-class Ulster Protestant family during The Troubles in Belfast, Northern Ireland. In its sixth week, the film averaged $1,293 over 217 screens and has made a total of $4.13 million.
