ARIA Charts: Drake returns to #1 as The Kid Laroi continues his streak

Singles

Hitting 13 weeks at #1, Australia’s The Kid Laroi and Canadian Justin Bieber become equal third on the list of longest runs at the top of the ARIA singles chart with Stay. It joins Coolio’s Gangsta’s Paradise from 1995, Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee’s Despacito from 2017, and Lil Nas X’s Old Town Road from 2019. Only Ed Sheeran’s Shape Of You (15 weeks) and Tones and I’s Dance Monkey (25 weeks) have spent more time at #1.

Nigerian singer/songwriter CKay continues his rapid ascent of the singles chart, with Love Nwantiti (Ah Ah Ah) climbing a further five spots this week to hit #8. The track currently sits at #4 in both New Zealand and the UK.

Albums

After two weeks away from the #1 position, Drake’s Certified Lover Boy returns to the top of the ARIA albums chart for a third week. It now sits alongside Scorpion as the Canadian rapper’s longest stay at the top of the chart.

Following its release on viny,l Fearless (Taylor’s Version), the re-recording of Taylor Swift’s second album, returns to the chart at #5. When it was released in April of this year, it became the American singer-songwriter’s eighth #1 on the ARIA albums chart. 

The highest ranking Australian alb um this week comes from Perth band Pond as they score their first ARIA albums chart top ten as they debut at #6 with 9. The group’s aptly titled ninth studio album comes two years after Tasmania, which tied with Man It Feels Like Space Again for their previous peak at #15. It’s their first self-produced album in over a decade.

Melbourne’s Client Liaison claim their first ARIA albums chart top ten at #7 as they return with Divine Intervention. The second album from the duo comes five years on from their debut, Diplomatic Immunity which peaked at #15. It features collaborations with producers Nick Littlemore (Pnau) and Dann Hume, plus Eskimo Joe’s Joel Quartermain.

Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga take out their second chart entry together after reuniting for Love For Sale at #11. The second collaborative album from the pair comes seven years on from Cheek To Cheek and is a tribute to the work of American composer Cole Porter. It’s veteran crooner Bennett’s 61st studio album.

Debuting at #16, Irish band The Script bring together highlights of their career so far on the compilation Tales From The Script: Greatest Hits at #16. The album includes tracks from all of the band’s six studio albums, plus one new song, I Want It All. To date, their highest peak was with Science & Faith at #2 in October 2010.

Australian country singer-songwriter Angus Gill debuts at #19 this week with The Scrapbook. Gill’s fourth album comes a year on from 3 Minute Movies hitting #28 in October 2020, and becomes his highest peak on the chart.
