• Tones And I claims her first ARIA #1 album with Welcome To The Madhouse

Singles

Stay by Australia’s The Kid Laroi and Justin Bieber holds the #1 spot on the ARIA singles chart for a second straight week after taking the title last week. It maintains its position at the top on the same day The Kid Laroi releases the third installment of his F*ck Love mixtape, F*ck Love 3: Over You. His previous #1 Without You has moved back up to #9 this week.

In its ninth week in the top 50, Vance Joys Missing Piece climbs nine spots to hit #14. It becomes the Melbourne singer-songwriters third-highest chart position after the God Loves You When You’re Dancing EP, which featured Riptide and Fire And The Flood, which both peaked at #6.

With his second posthumous album Faith debuting at #4 this week, the late American rapper Pop Smoke scores three debuts on this week’s singles chart. The Chris Brown-featured Woo Baby is the highest entry at #24. There’s also Demeanor with Dua Lipa at #43 and Tell The Vision with Kanye West and Pusha T at #47.

As she tops the ARIA albums chart with Welcome To The Madhouse, Tones And I grabs a new singles chart peak with Cloudy Day. In its fourth week in the top 50, the album’s third single jumps up 13 spots to hit #31.

Albums

Australia’s very own Tones And I debuts at #1 on this week’s ARIA albums chart with Welcome To The Madhouse.

The first full-length album from singer-songwriter Toni Watson comes two years after she made her first album chart appearance with The Kids Are Coming EP which peaked at #3 in September 2019. Since then, Watson has dominated charts across the globe, smashing records with Dance Monkey, whose 24-week stint at #1 in Australia was the longest ever. Dance Monkey is also the world’s most Shazamed song and Spotify’s third most played track.

Welcome To The Madhouse becomes the tenth Australian #1 album on the ARIA Charts in 2021.

Tones And I said: “Wow wow wow! Thank you so much Australia for your ongoing love and support, I am blown away. I can’t bloody believe it, I will not be quitting any time soon. Haha!”

ARIA CEO Annabelle Herd says: “This is an incredible result for Tones And I, and for Australian music. As the world’s number one songwriter in 2020 and after ruling the singles charts in 30 countries, Tones epitomises the unbelievable credibility of our home-grown recording industry. The chart-topping Welcome To The Madhouse continues an incredible string of successes that we are proud to champion.”

American singer-songwriter John Mayer returns to the chart with Sob Rock, his first album in four years. The follow-up to 2017’s The Search For Everything is Mayers eighth studio album and becomes his seventh release to hit the ARIA top ten. John Mayer has his #1 with the albums Born And Raised in June 2012 and Paradise Valley in September 2013.

British hip hop artist and YouTuber KSI releases his second top ten album in just over a year as he releases second album, All Over The Place which comes in at #6. The follow-up to Dissimulation includes the single Holiday and guest appearances by the likes of Future, 21 Savage, Yungblud, Polo G, Anne-Marie and Craig David.

ARIA Award-winner Nick Murphy returns to his famous moniker, releasing the second Chet Faker album, Hotel Surrender coming in at #19. Between Built On Glass, which topped the chart in April 2014, and the new release, Murphy put out two albums under his own name: 2019’s Run Fast Sleep Naked and 2020’s Music for Silence. He announced his return to the Chet Faker name in October 2020.

Diesel pays tribute to blues greats of the past with 15th studio album, Alone With Blues at #20. It’s his second album in under a year, following Sunset Suburbia which hit #10 in September 2020. Featuring a mix of originals and covers of tracks by John Lee Hooker, Jimmy Reed and Willie Dixon, among others, Diesel played everything on the album himself.

Coming in at #31 is Hail Satin by Dee Gees – the disco alter-ego of The Foo Fighters. Released for Record Store Day, the album is made up of Bee Gees covers and live-in-studio cuts from their previous album, Medicine at Midnight.
