As It Was by Harry Styles holds #1 on the ARIA singles chart for a fourth week. It comes a week out from the release of the British star’s third album, Harry’s House. This week Canadian band Arcade Fire performed a version of the track in their live session for BBC 6 Music.

A week on from debuting at #12, Lizzo jumps up nine spots to hit #3 with About Damn Time after the track went viral on TikTok. The first single from the American singer-songwriter/rapper’s fourth album, Special, becomes her highest chart peak, taking over from Good As Hell which peaked at #6 in November 2019.

The highest ranking Australian single this week comes from The Kid Laroi with Thousand Miles at #5. The ARIA Award winner’s first single of 2022 was his first track to hit the top ten since Not Sober peaked at #8 in August last year. The debut of Thousand Miles comes a month before The Kid Laroi returns to Australia for an arena tour.

Future’s Wait For U moves up three spots to #12 in its second week on the chart. The track, which features Canadian star Drake and Nigerian singer Tems, is the current US #1 – giving Future his second chart-topper.

On top of scoring the #2 album this week with Come Home The Kids Miss You, American rapper Jack Harlow grabs two debuts in the singles chart top 50, with his tribute to Dua Lipa sitting highest at #13. Harlow’s collaboration with Drake, Churchill Downs, debuts at #17. Former #1 First Class is at #2, while previous single Nail Tech re-enters at #38.

Taylor Swift debuts at #23 with her latest re-recording, This Love (Taylor’s Version). It’s a new version of the track that first appeared on 1989 and becomes the 17th re-recorded track by the American singer-songwriter to appear in the ARIA top 50.

American rapper Kendrick Lamar takes out his first new entry in the ARIA singles chart in four years, debuting at #31 with The Heart Part 5. The fifth instalment in Lamar’s The Heart song series was released last week as a teaser for his fifth album, Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers, which dropped on May 13. The song doesn’t appear on the album.

Debuting at #35, Lady Gaga scores her first new entry in the top 50 since 2020 with Hold My Hand. The new release is the lead single from the soundtrack to Top Gun: Maverick. The American star last hit the chart with Sour Candy at #8 in June 2020, a collaboration with Blackpink.

Albums

In its third week on the ARIA Albums Chart, Daniel JohnsFutureNever hits #1 for the first time. The ascent to the top spot by Johns’ second solo album comes following the release of limited-edition versions on cassette. John’s first solo #1 becomes his sixth career chart-topper after hitting #1 with the Silverchair albums Frogstomp, Freak Show, Neon Ballroom, Diorama, and Young Modern. FutureNever is the sixth Australian #1 album on the ARIA Charts in 2022.

Daniel Johns said: “I’m genuinely shocked and completely humbled to hear the news that FutureNever is #1 on the ARIA Charts particularly in the 3rd week of release. I’ve been working so hard on myself over the last 7 weeks that I’ve been a little disconnected from the activity around the album. I believe in this album so much and I cannot convey the level of gratitude I have for the people who are supporting the music in such profound ways. Thank you from the bottom of my heart- I love and miss you all.”

ARIA chief executive officer, Annabelle Herd, said: “A huge congratulations to Daniel Johns on hitting #1 on this week’s ARIA Albums Chart. It’s a rare achievement for an album to crack the top spot beyond its first week. This speaks volumes about the passion of Daniel’s fanbase and his team.”

Jack Harlow scores his first ARIA top ten entry as he debuts at #2 with Come Home The Kids Miss You. The American rapper’s second album comes 18 months on from his debut, Thats What They All Say and features appearances by Pharrell Williams, Drake, Justin Timberlake, and Lil Wayne. Come Home The Kids Miss You includes the single First Class, which spent two weeks at #1 in April.

Sydney electronic producer Alison Wonderland takes out her third ARIA top ten entry as she debuts at #9 with Loner, making her the top ranked Australian abum. It’s Wonderland’s third studio album and comes four years on from Awake, which earned her two ARIA Awards nominations.

Stand Atlantic claim their first ARIA top ten entry as they debut at #10 with F.E.A.R. The Sydney pop-punk band’s third album is the follow-up to Pink Elephant which hit #23 in August 2020.

Releasing We, their first album in five years, Canadian band Arcade Fire debut at #11. The follow-up to Everything Now is the group’s sixth album and gives them a fifth ARIA top 50 entry. A host of collaborators appear on the album including Peter Gabriel, Father John Misty, and Portishead’s Geoff Barrow.

Hilltop Hoods’ sixth album Drinking From The Sun returns to the chart at #12 on the back of a vinyl reissue to mark its tenth anniversary. Released in March 2012, it became the Adelaide group’s third #1 on the ARIA Charts and earned them five ARIA Award nominations, winning Best Urban Album.
