Elton John and Dua Lipa take out their fourth week at #1 with Cold Heart (Pnau Remix). It’s the track’s second run of two straight weeks at #1, following a two-week run in November.
Four weeks into its time in the chart, Gayle’s abcdefu moves up two spots to claim a new peak at #2. It matches the peak already hit by the single in the UK and Ireland.
Despite Sydney’s PNAU being the ones to remix Elton John & Dua Lipa’s Cold Heart (PNAU Remix) at #1, the highest charting Australian artist this week is The Kid Laroi with Stay at #3. His single with Justin Bieber spent 14 weeks straight at the top of the chart before it was taken over by Adele’s Easy On Me.
After two weeks at #11, Acraze’s remix of Cherish’s Do It To It moves up two spots to hit the top ten for the first time at #9. After gaining popularity on TikTok, the track peaked at #1 on the Billboard Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart in the US.
While Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas Is You remains steady at #8 for a second week, Wham’s festive season classic Last Christmas has raced up this week’s chart, moving from #18 to #12. The 1984 track hit #2 at the end of 2020, its highest ever peak.
Rounding out the Christmas tracks this week are: Michael Bublé’s It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas at #13, Ariana Grande’s Santa Tell Me at #21, Ed Sheeran & Elton John’s Merry Christmas at #29, Brenda Lee’s Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree at #34 and Bobby Helms’ Jingle Bell Rock at #39.
Albums
Adele’s 30 takes out the #1 spot on the ARIA albums chart for the fourth straight week. The British pop superstar’s fourth album has now spent half as much time in the pole position as previous album 25 and an eighth as much as blockbuster 21.
After debuting at #5 last week, the Australian Bird Calls album Songs Of Disappearance has moved up two spots to score a new peak at #3. Featuring the birdsong of 53 of the most threatened species of Australian native birds, the project is collaboration between the nature recordist David Stewart, Nature Sound, the Bowerbird Collective, BirdLife Australia, Charles Darwin University and Mervyn Street of Mangkaja Arts. Proceeds from the album go towards BirdLife Australia’s conservation efforts.
Juice WRLD takes out the week’s highest debut at #7 with Fighting Demons. It’s the second posthumous album from the late American rapper, who passed away in December 2019. The first posthumous album, Legends Never Die, hit #1 in July 2020. Fighting Demons includes the singles Already Dead and Wandered To LA, as well as contributions from Justin Bieber, Polo G, Trippie Redd and Suga of BTS. The album serves as a tie-in for documentary Juice WRLD: Into the Abyss, which was released in the US on 16 December.
#26: Norah Jones ‘I Dream Of Christmas’ – American singer-songwriter Norah Jones releases her first festive season album, I Dream Of Christmas. The collection features originals as well as Jones’ take on Christmas classics including White Christmas, Blue Christmas, Run Rudolph Run and Christmas Time Is Here. Jones last appeared on the ARIA albums chart with Pick Me Up Off The Floor at #21 in June 2020.
