As Tigers find form on the Gold Coast, Seven dominates

TV ratings: Seven

With a fourth win in what is a State of Origin week, Seven has closed the gap in the TV ratings with Nine to 1.3 in network share with one night left to decide the week.

Seven News continued its leadership position with over 1m across the 6pm hour.

The Friday Night Football Richmond v Brisbane game was moved from the MCG to the Gold Coast. The game started 15 minutes late with the teams caught in heavy traffic on the trip from Brisbane to the stadium. The Friday AFL average audience was just over 600,000 with 327,000 in Melbourne.

Nine

The primary channel has a handy 2.2 lead with one night to go which could be enough to win the week, especially with Nine having a rugby union international tonight. The Australia v France clash also moves from 9Gem to the primary channel.

The Friday night NRL clash was also played on the Gold Coast with the Sea Eagles too good for the Dragons. The audience was 368,000 – 253,000 in Sydney and a much smaller 88,000 interested in Brisbane.

Better Homes and Gardens got very close to half a million across Seven and 7TWO.

10

The Project 7pm attracted the channel’s biggest audience with 422,000.

The Living Room didn’t see too many drift away with 358,000 across the hour.

The encore screening of Have You Been Paying Attention? was on 206,000.

ABC

After the final episode of the repeat season of Vera did over 500,000 last week, the launch of a new season of Midsomer Murders with fresh episodes started on 464,000.

Earlier in the night Movin’ to the Country had an audience of 432,000 and then Dream Gardens was in Warrandyte, chopping down good looking pine trees to protect against bushfire threat, on 365,000.

SBS

The third last night of Tour de France means Stage 19 and as the race nears the finish line the coverage was the channel’s #1 on 166,000.

Now that veteran commentator Phil Liggett is exclusively the property of NBC this time of year, he only appeared on the coverage last night in a pre-recorded interview with Mike Tomalaris. Liggett talked about missing the SBS audience, but also managed to plug the record-breaking ratings for the NBC coverage on cable in the US.
