TV ratings Week 39 2021: Melbourne’s AFL Grand Final win lifts Seven

The Grand Final plus the pre and post-game coverage gives Seven five most-watched programs

Nine won four nights of Week 39, but the TV ratings for Saturday’s AFL Grand Final secured Seven an easy win for the week.

28.7% primary share, 35.8% network share

The week’s result was all about the football which delivered Seven record shares and the biggest single TV audience of the year.

The Grand Final plus the pre and post-game coverage gave Seven the five most-watched programs of the week.

Apart from Seven News, the channel’s next best was the Sunday screening of the 2021 Brownlow Medal on 896,000.

The biggest SAS Australia audience was 620,000 with the other two episodes just over 600,000 and just under.

Total TV Week 37

The biggest Total TV program of the week was Seven’s episode of The Voice with 2,098,000 watching, including a BVOD audience of 253,000.

Nine overnights Week 39

19.8% primary share, 27.1% network share

Nine News Saturday was the best performer with 1,107,000. It was up against just a 15-minute Seven News bulletin because of the AFL.

The biggest non-news success belonged to The Block with the Sunday episode on 962,000.

Total TV Week 37

The Sunday episode of The Block ranked #4 for the week in Total TV with an audience of 1,777,000. The BVOD audience was 191,000.

10 Overnights Week 39

9.6% primary share, 15.9% network share

Have You Been Paying Attention? was the primary channel’s best with 740,000, an increase week-on-week of 100,000.

Next best was the Monday episode of The Masked Singer with the Reveal on 703,000 and the remainder of the episode on 567,000.

Total TV Week 37

Australian Survivor was one of two entries in the top 20 with 1,181,000 and a BVOD audience of 122,000.

Alongside it was Have You Been Paying Attention? on 1,178,000 and a BVOD audience of 56,000.

ABC Overnights Week 39

10.3% primary share, 14.2% network share

The weekday ABC News had a bigger week with an average of 750,000.

Two shows made it over 600,000 with Hard Quiz on 623,000 and 7.30 on 619,000.

Total TV Week 37

ABC News and Australian Story made the Top 20 for the week with both over 1.2m.

Two other shows over 1m were Hard Quiz on 1.079m and The Newsreader on 1.032m. The latter had the biggest SVOD audience with 149,000.

SBS Overnights Week 39

3.9% primary share, 7.0% network share

One entry in the 200,000 club this week – a repeat episode of Tony Robinson’s World by Rail on 207,000.

Total TV Week 37

The biggest audience was a repeat episode of Great Asian Railway Journeys on 370,000.
