Seven

Seven won last night with the top primary (21.0%) and network (27.3%) share thanks to strong performances from Seven News, Home and Away, and the premier of SAS Australia.

Home and Away kicked off its week with an audience of 659,000. This comes after the show had an average of 599,000 for last week.

SAS Australia then returned for 2021 with 647,000 viewers, down from last year’s launch audience of 834,000. The show didn’t take it easy on the star recruits who were forced to endure a tear-gassing exercise before even entering the compound.

Surprised by the biggest recruit reacting so strongly to the tear gas, the DS brought #16 Sam Burgess, into the Mirror Room for questioning, where he proceeded to come clean about the personal events which brought him there.

The challenges continued with a test of endurance – a helicopter ladder crossing high above a lake – which proved too challenging for some.

One of the few to successfully complete the task, recruit #17 Alicia Molik, received a brutal dressing down from Middleton after a blatant display of showboating. As punishment, all recruits faced their first beasting back on the Parade Square.

Collapsing under the pressure, #3 Brynne Edelsten became the first recruit to VW (voluntarily withdraw) from the course.

Australian Gangster then had 359,000 viewers.

Nine

The Block had 854,000 viewers as the fallout from the cheating scandal comes back to bite not just the teams involved, but everyone on the show, with news that the wardrobes might not be ready after the original production schedule was scrapped.

Despite the stiff competition of two season launches from SAS Australia and The Masked SingerThe Block was the top non-news program last night and #1 in all key demos.

Under Investigation then followed as the show covered the murder of 23-year-old Elizabeth ‘Beth’ Barnard in 1986 which divided the close but secretive community of Victoria’s Phillip Island. The episode had 359,000 viewers.

Footy Classified and 100% footy then both had 176,000 and 55,000.

10

The Project had 307,000 (6:00pm) and 519,000 (7:00pm) as the show covered how Victoria’s Covid spike has put the construction industry on notice, and also took a deep dive into the early life and career of Prime Minister Scott Morrison

The Masked Singer then followed with its season three premiere which brought in 642,000 viewers. The first episode unveiled that Vinnie Jones was performing under the Volcano mask with 760,000 tuning in for the reveal. In 2020 the launch episode saw 735,000 tune in for the show with 828,000 watching the reveal.

Jones’s take on The Proclaimers 80’s hit I’m Gonna Be didn’t quite measure up to the magma-tude of Vampire’s rendition of Coolio’s Gangsta’s Paradise.

Guessing panel Dannii Minogue, Dave Hughes, Jackie O and Urzila Carlson were unable to detect Jones as the Volcano and instead nominated Sacha Baron Cohen, Christian Bale, Billy Bob Thornton and Anthony Mundine as it’s possible identity.

Have You Been Paying Attention? then followed with 639,000 as the episode featured Emma Holland’s debut on the show. The episode also featured Kitty Flanagan and Pete Helliar.

10 continued to perform well in the key demos on Monday nights with both The Masked Singer and HYBPA? in the top five for all segments.

ABC

Australian Story had 608,000 as it covered Dr Jamal Rifi who has given up his retirement dreams to fight Covid from his front yard in the middle of the nation’s Delta outbreak.

Four Corners followed with an examination of the world of Jehovah’s Witnesses with former members of the group revealing the secret practices used to instil fear and maintain discipline among followers. The episode had 621,000 viewers.

Media Watch then had 496,000 viewers.

SBS

The top rating show on SBS last night was a repeat of 10 Mistakes That Sunk the Titanic with 190,000 viewers.
