Nine’s Married at First Sight (MAFS) has claimed the number one series on television in 2022, giving the 9Network its strongest ever start to a calendar year.

The reality TV show, now into its fourth week of season nine, has delivered huge audiences all season.

Episode six, which aired Monday, February 9 had a total TV audience of 2.02 million people, with an uplift of 54%.

Director of 9Now and programming Hamish Turner said, “Married At First Sight is again the undisputed leader in Australian entertainment.

“We are seeing significant audience growth across both Live and VOD viewing, demonstrating the power of our Total TV proposition. Total Audience acceleration is driven by the growth in consumption on connected televisions.”

The series has had big success in its uplift on their overnight audience. The majority of the first 10 episodes have experienced an uplift between 50% – 80% once BVOD and time-shifted viewing figures are included.

Married at First Sight has dominated overnight linear viewing in the all-important key demographics of 25-54s, 16-39s and GS + Child, as well as Total People.

Despite the lowest audience for a premiere since 2017, Married at First Sight is up Year-on-Year with most episodes showing percentage growth of Total TV viewers according to official BVOD and 7-day time-shifted figures.

This figure is expected to continue to grow in the weeks to come as the show moves into the later stages of the social experiment, including dinner parties, home visits and commitment ceremonies designed to test the couples’ compatibility.

In 2021, the Married at First Sight season finale was the highest-rated program of the first quarter, airing to an audience of 1.398m.
