TV Demand: The Orville steals #2 spot from The Boys

• Stranger Things can’t be beat with 13 weeks at top

Netflix enjoyed its thirteenth consecutive week at the top of the TV demand charts with sci-fi series Stranger Things. Despite the season four finale airing on July 1, the series has maintained traction since then, coming in at 80.23 points above average in Australia and 42.22 points in New Zealand this past week.

Hulu’s The Orville has overtaken Amazon Prime’s The Boys in the Australian and New Zealand digital originals after nine weeks sitting at #2. Created by and starring Seth MacFarlane, season three of The Orville has been better received by critics compared to its previous seasons. This past week, the Star Trek inspired series had a 23.18 difference from the market average in Australia and 17.77 in New Zealand.

The Boys experienced a slight drop, sliding from second to third in the digital originals. Season three of the superhero series still remains a popular choice for TV fanatics, coming in 21.05 points above average in Australia and 16.94 in New Zealand.

In overall TV shows, Better Call Saul continues its successful streak, placing second in both Australia (31.68) and New Zealand (25.61). The Breaking Bad spin-off has stirred up popularity for the original show, with Breaking Bad placing third in Australia, with a difference of 23.91 and seventh in New Zealand with 16.52.

Rising from fifth to fourth is Hulu’s season two of Only Murders In The Building, with 20.67 points above the average in Australia. The series is a mystery-comedy that follows three strangers played by Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez, who share an obsession with a true crime podcast.  The series has been renewed for a third season. 

In overall TV shows, Game of Thrones clocked fourth in Australia (23.7) and third in New Zealand (18.01), while The Orville came fifth in Australia (23.18) and fourth in NZ (17.77).
