TV Demand: Stranger Things comfortable at #1 for ten weeks

• The Boys come second across the board for the seventh week

Stranger Things has now spent ten consecutive weeks at the top of the TV demand charts, with no end in sight. Netflix’s most popular show ever has placed 109.25 points above market average in Australia and 54.28 points above average in New Zealand. Last week the show peaked at 149.91 points above average in Australia and 69.07 points in New Zealand, but is still well above the closest competitor. 

For seven weeks now, Amazon Prime has come in at second with its superhero series, The Boys. In Australia, the show had a difference of 31.4 from the market average, while in New Zealand, the show came in 26.44 points above average. The season three finale aired on July 8, and a spin-off series titled Gen V has been confirmed.

Placing third in Australia and New Zealand’s digital originals this week is Hulu’s season two of Only Murders In The Building, with 20.79 and 14.47 points, respectively. The series is a mystery-comedy that follows three strangers played by Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez, who share an obsession with a true crime podcast. Following a suspicious death in their affluent Upper West Side apartment building, the three neighbours start their own podcast about their investigation of the death, which the police ruled a suicide. The series has been renewed for a third season.

Our Flag Means Death has come in at fourth in both Australia and New Zealand. The series continues to rank well despite the season one finale airing at the end of March. The show came had a difference of 19.91 in Australia and 14.12 in New Zealand.

In New Zealand’s digital originals, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds fell from third to sixth, clocking 11.81 points above average, while Disney+’s Obi-wan Kenobi fell from fourth the fifth to come in 12.35 points above average.

Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy has fallen from fifth to sixth position in Australia after its season three release on June 22, with a difference of 17.11 points. The superhero series is based on the comic book series of the same name and stars Elliot Page, Aidan Gallagher and Robert Sheehan.

In overall TV shows, Better Caul Saul has ranked third with a difference of 29.08 in Australia and 22.85 in New Zealand. Love Island UK remains at fourth on the New Zealand TV demand charts with 21.36  points, while Game Of Thrones clocked fourth in Australia with 24.14 points.
