Triple M Gold Coast’s Flan, Spida, and Ali walk 33kms to raise funds for flood relief

Flan, Spida, and Ali flood relief

• To date, some $20,000 has been raised with more coming in

Over 13 hours on Friday, Triple M Gold Coast’s Ali Plath, Peter ‘Spida’ Everitt, and Sean ‘Flan’ Flanagan walked 33kms raising money for flood relief. In a spectacular, exhausting, and emotional day, the breakfast team walked, talked, and tin-rattled their way across the Gold Coast from Broadbeach to Southport, Robina, Miami, and Coolangatta, broadcasting their show live and raising money for flood victims on the Tweed and in Northern NSW. To date, some $20,000 has been raised with more coming in and being counted this week.

Triple M Gold Coast teamed up with Serving Our People to ensure all funds raised in Triple M’s K’s for Cash community fundraiser go directly to givit.org.au.

One special moment was at 6am on Friday when a  tradie stopped the team and handed $1,000 over. He wanted no mention on air, just to do his bit. In another, Flan ended up doing the whole day in in boat shoes (as result of his son taking his running shoes!), which resulted in huge blood blisters and much angst – however, it didn’t stop him.

“As a community there’s been a genuine sense of not knowing how to help the communities who have been devastated by the floods.  In some towns it looks like a third world country, and at this stage there is no financial help.  A lot are uninsured and there’s so many people homeless. We’ve had hundreds of listeners phone in asking how they can help, and so we literally took to the streets, old school, and what a day it was!” said Ali Plath.

“We were so very honored to be able to do our bit for what is the biggest local disaster of our lifetime,” said Spida while Flan said, “We couldn’t sit by and do nothing, we needed to help and help now. So, Gold Coast, we came for you, and you answered….. Thank you!”
