The Lab’s CEO, Neale Cotton: “We are incredibly proud to now be a certified B Corp”

The Lab has announced that it is a certified B Corp, joining a global movement of companies that demonstrate their pursuit of purpose over profit.

The independent insight and strategy agency completed an 18-month-long B Impact Assessment, a verification process administered by non-profit B Lab, which evaluates a company’s impact on its employees, customers, suppliers, community, and the environment.

“We are incredibly proud to now be a certified B Corp,” said The Lab’s CEO, Neale Cotton.

“This reflects The Lab’s longstanding commitment toward prioritising the well-being of our people, our place and the planet. We are delighted to now be part of a global community of like-minded businesses that use their influence as a force for good.”

Certified B Corps meet the highest verified standards of social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability, and aspire to use the power of business to address social and environmental challenges.

Cotton said that becoming a certified B Corp is the next step in formalising the agency’s ongoing commitment toward broader positive environmental and social impact.

“At The Lab we acknowledge our duty to play a positive and proactive role in cultivating a society that is more equitable, open minded and sustainable,” he said.

“In 2021 we pledged to achieve net zero emissions by going carbon neutral, while in 2022 we formalised our commitment to reconciliation with First Nations People by developing our Reconciliation Action Plan.”

Team wellbeing is also an intrinsic part of The Lab’s DNA. Their ‘LabFlex’ program provides team members with numerous initiatives to promote balance and flexibility. This includes six paid additional ‘Lab Long Weekends’ across the year, quarterly balance leave days, as well as operating a fully flexible workplace. The Lab also supports its team with a generous and progressive parental leave policy, designed to promote inclusivity and equality.

Founded in 2006, The Lab is a business with care, curiosity and empathy at its core. By combining the powerful forces of culture, behaviour and technology, its team of strategic thinkers unlock innovative opportunities for brands. The Lab works with a range of client partners, including businesses from the not-for-profit and NGO sectors.

By becoming B Corp certified, Cotton believes The Lab in now in the best position to continue its history of doing work that matters.

“We’ve always had an eye on the bigger picture, whether it’s with our internal initiatives, or the work that we do with client partners,” he said.

“We’re proud to be able to continue our contribution toward creating a brighter future and hope that we can encourage other businesses to also join the movement.”
